Sword Art Online S4 Ep16

Caw's reaction when "Sugou-san" was mentioned was really funny to me for some reason

I think there was a very small post credit scene that you missed. You might wanna watch that before starting Episode 17 :)

You can't really blame the Author if there was so much material that A-1 (had to) cut out to fit it into the anime. Alicization consists of several light novels and they made "only" close to 50 episodes out of that. Explaining things takes more time than showing/fighting so often these are the things that are more likely to cut. But also this is war. How much of civilization and casual life plays a role in real world War?

i mean the reason kirito used vr again was to save asuna in season 1, who knows if hed ever used it again otherwise

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly think that the second half of season four falls off quite a bit. The reason the Alicization arc stands out for me is the high level of immersion created in this virtual world. The Underworld is not a video game like the other seasons, but much more of a society simulation, with its own set of rules. There are the various authority levels, the Axiom Church, the Taboo Index, the system commands and the idea of self-image. There's also the whole plot surrounding the Rath technology and the history of the Underworld. Everything that's happened in season three has followed this world's rules (apart from the shit Kirito does, of course). But in the second half of season 4, it all starts to fall apart. Almost nothing is explained anymore, and it feels like the author is giving a fuck about his own rules. The use of the super accounts can still be explained by the in-game lore, but the inclusion of all the players from previous seasons and the later appearance of the Americans and Koreans feels completely out of place to me. I'm sure many will be excited about the many cameos and epic battles. But leaving aside the well-animated battles, the storyline is pretty mid. It feels more like another quest in ALO than a worthy conclusion to this very well constructed story. Nevertheless, I think Alicization as a whole is still by far the best part of SAO, even despite the few weaknesses at the end.
