slight correction: you had the correct understanding of the Demon Lord seed before you looked at chat. As Great Sage says, it is just an indicator that a monster is strong enough and has met the other requirements to Awaken as a True Demon Lord. It is automatically given to individuals by the system of the world once they meet the requirements. Notice how Great Sage did not say Rimuru got the seed FROM the Orc Disaster, Rimuru got it WHEN he devoured the Orc Disaster. So he did not like take the seed, rather devouring the Orc Disaster just increased Rimuru's power to the point he was granted the seed. Kind of like how the Orc Lord evolved into the Orc Distaster and was granted a Demon Lord seed immediately after eating Gelmud. Gelmud did not have a Demon Lord Seed himself, but eating him made the Orc Lord powerful enough to be granted one.
