THIS IS THE END

Back in April I moved out of the place I’d called home for the last seven years. It had been the home of some of my most creative shoots, where I’d met many friends and models that I am dearly close with today, and where I’d sat editing my final images, becoming inspired, and so much more.

One of the first models I met in that place was Erika. I recently shared my first shoot with her in that space, brace-faced and shy, awkward, and nervous. Though she’s still a dorky, goofy lady, she has grown and changed a lot since those early days. So I figured why not have her be my last shoot in that space? And that’s exactly what we did.

By this point, my whole life was in boxes back at the new place, and so when I arrived that day to shoot with Erika, I had hardly looked at the equipment I brought. Turns out my battery was almost on empty, so my digital camera was only able to shoot a few dozen images before it finally died. Thankfully I had a film camera and several rolls of ten year old 35mm film, so I was able to at least keep the shoot going a little while before we had to call it quits.

This shoot was bitter sweet for us both. This small one room apartment had been the sight for countless heart-to-hearts for us. I’d talked her through some tough times, shared many tears, and plenty of laughter, too. But life was changing, it was time to move on for both of us.

As you’ve seen, we’ve shot together several times in my new place, with many more images to come. But for now, let’s reflect on these last photos we captured there and think about how far we’ve come.
