MAGIC SPELL

My dear, wonderful friend Erika only becomes more lovely as time passes. Smart, funny, strong and self-aware, this lady is no wilting flower. Though I see her often when she comes over to give me haircuts (that’s how sweet she is), we hadn’t done a shoot in a while. So two weeks ago she came over specifically to shoot. We made full use of my small apartment, using natural lighting on the bed, artificial lighting in my makeshift studio, and then, finally, took to the roads when it became dark enough.

I wanted to experiment with some different lighting techniques out in public, and thankfully she was brave enough to do a little flashing in public, also. She was starving, so before we began shooting out in public I stopped and got her some Del Taco burritos, which she scarfed down, warming her for the frigid evening air.

Though this is just the first part of this lighting series, I think it shows a fun, new direction in my lighting. It’s subtle, different, yet refreshing, from my point of view. Let me know what you think!
