ELEFTHERIA, THE GREEK

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: finding models while traveling in Europe is incredibly difficult. They all want an elaborate set-up, an expensive location, hair and make-up stylists, and a lot of money. They want a large, professional arrangement. That’s simply not how I shoot. I’m guerrilla style, quick and fast and dirty. No fuss, let’s get in and get out. So when I send out messages to models, I get a lot nothing. Very few responses, and most of the responses I do receive are short “no thank-yous.”

So imagine my joy and excitement when Eleftheria (pronounced “Elif-ther-EE-ah”) responded to me positively. Though her schedule was more than a little hectic, we spent weeks corresponding, moving dates, discussing locations. Finally, when the day was officially settled on, we tried to find a boat to shoot on. As the day approached, with the boat tentatively scheduled, the weather took a turn for the worst, so we decided to work simply and shoot at our AirBNB location.

This first of several series I shot with this beautiful lady was taken in the bedroom where I had been sleeping the two previous nights. I had hurriedly cleaned it up moments before Eleftheria arrived, rushing to clear any of my travel mess. 

When she arrived she was even more beautiful than in her photos, and she was as easy-going and sweet and personable as she had in my dreams. We easily picked a few outfits to begin and we went to shoot on my bedroom’s tiny balcony. Shooting with the natural light, through the long, lacy white curtains, was all I could have ever asked for, and thankfully she loved the photos immediately, also.

We had fun discussing life, learning about how the locals viewed Athens. She gave us tips and insight and was an absolute pleasure. We shot so much that day, but I will be sharing more in the future. For now, enjoy this series and let me know what you think of the Greek beauty Eleftheria!
