SONGS OF SUMMER

With the glaring and unforgiving heat of summer now in full swing, I can’t help but shoot images that feel like the hottest season of the year. Colors, freedom, heat, and passion seem to consume my fevered mind these days. Sex and nudity and the softness of flesh can be consuming, and the summer months brighten and heat up the fires within us all.

The power of bright sun is something many people ignore. The sun doesn’t only effect the temperature, but it effects how we view the world, as well. Colors seem brighter in the summer sun, more potent and vibrant. The warm, yellow/orange tint of the light broadens every tone, intensifies them, enriches our view of the world. Warm tones are comforting, hypnotic, and make time seem slower in its passing.

This warm summer day with Tazia was no exception. Even though we shot mid-morning, it already felt like a long, drawn out day where all we wanted to do was relax, have a drink, and laze about in the sun for longer than a doctor would prescribe. The hazy soft-focus of a summer day can confuse and dull your senses, but that doesn’t stop you from wishing it would never end.
