CAROLA IN ITALY
When I was going to return to Italy, I knew I wanted to shoot models that had a genuine Italian look to them. Of course, since I’m an American, my opinion of what constitutes an Italian looking woman is incredbily biased by the media, culture, and so much more. When I finally arrived back in Italy, I met women of all shapes and sizes, many with blue eyes, blonde hair, and dark, dark skin. But finally I met Carola.
Carola is an amateur model that has worked for a few local photographers in her small hometown of Salerno, Italy on the Amalfi Coast. She is everything I had ever wanted, and she was a sweetheart, as well. Olive skinned, dark hair, strong, rugged, beautiful features, and a body with a thin frame yet plenty of curves.
The thing I liked most about her was her eyebrows. They were dark and wild and lush, conveying deep thought over Carola’s sad, large, dark eyes. Even at her young age in her early 20s, she easily looked as though she’d lived quite a life, had numerous challenging experiences, and survived them all with a grace and strength that can only come from dealign with adversity.
Over the course of a week I visited Carola at the bar she worked at, drank with her, shot with her twice, and socialized with her at a mutual friend’s wedding. Even with the subtle language barrier, she spoke enough English to make the relationship genuine and feel intimate and sincere. I was pleased to have gotten to know her a bit, and through the power of social media we’ve been able to keep in touch ever since. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do!
