PIN-UP MODEL
Society is changing constantly. Chaos and strife seem to be a constant on the news, more now than ever. And though the world has always been full of this challenges and horrific complications, there was a time when not a lot of this information reached us, and even less effected us.
This series harness back to a simpler time. A time when race riots and back alley abortions were part of the societal structure but on a day-to-day basis no one really saw them, or cared. Beauty was a smile, sexuality was an exposed thigh, and padded brassieres were more fetishized than actual breasts ever were.
This series has never fully been shown, even though it was taken in a 75 year old’s back yard almost a decade ago. Amongst the manicured grass and orange trees, this redheaded beauty basked in the California sunshine as if the light had never been that bright before.
It was a simpler time for me, as well. I had finally become comfortable as a photographer, gaining confidence with every snap of the shutter. But I was also naive, thinking that taking a quality image was all it took to be a professional. I was naive to think that when people said they were your loyal and good friend that they meant it. That things would always stay the same.
Now that life is so different, now that eyes are fully open and times have changed, I can’t say we are any better or worse, just simply more aware. And I’ve always wanted the truth over an illusion.
I hope you enjoy this special series, and I hope that pulling these unseen images out of mothballs was worth it. Let me know what you think, please!
