STARTING FRESH

This photo series is of the great Shaley, and though these were taken around NYE, I somehow lost them in the shuffle. Shaley is another one of these fun, sweet, positive ladies, someone you couldn’t possibly imagine sharing the same world you do. Her beauty and elegance is unreal, and when I first met her I couldn’t picture her pumping gas, paying her taxes, or changing a litter box. She’s just to perfect to be real.

This weekend I shot a friend’s wedding. The large party was made up of several hundred people, most of whom I knew. However, I also didn’t know a variety of them, mostly on the groom’s side. The couple is very wild and fun and openminded, and the majority of the wedding guests were drunk and in the mood to party. Somehow, due to new medication and a lack of awareness of vodka in all my drinks, I became far more drunk than anticipated and became a blubbering mess by the end of the day. And yet somehow, I managed to take some exceptional photos before and after hitting my limit.

Thankfully, I have a wonderful girlfriend to take care of me. She managed to wrangle me, drive me home, doctor me up, and put me to bed, all with a positive attitude and smiling, never taking any of it personally.

It had been a hard two weeks for me. Death of my mentor, a few major professional set-backs, unnecessary drama and family strife, overcoming that wretched flu that everyone has been fighting. Needless to say, I had a lot on my mind. And somehow, because of all that or despite it all, I hit rock bottom. I was embarrassed, exhausted, and emotionally drained. But today I feel like I’m beginning fresh in a way I haven’t these last three months since also being laid off from my corporate office job.

I’m not sure what any of that means, really, but I am feeling hopeful, almost inspired, and ready to push forward happily, focused on what’s right for me, for once. Wish me luck.
