WHEN TEST SHOOTS GO RIGHT, pt.10

I haven’t been shooting much of anything lately. I’m not sure if I’ve lost my passion altogether or if it’s just a temporary blip on the radar, but unfortunately they feel exactly the same. I still make time for people that I think are truly exceptional, and unfortunately there are fewer and fewer local girls that seem exceptional to me. But then I was contacted by Lauren.

She reached out wanting to shoot, voiced her confidence with both her appearance and her body, and was shockingly more professional in her communication skills than some people I know who are twice her meager 20 years of age. She immediately asked if she could call me and talk on the phone, which a model hasn’t volunteered to do with me since 2007. The she called me “Mr. Velasquez,” spoke intelligently about her passions, was decisive yet open, and was as accommodating with her schedule as possible. Needless to say, I was incredibly impressed. We shot a week later at her new place here on the central coast. She had only moved out to California from the Midwest three months before and had already fallen in love with the weather, the people, “the vibe,” etc. Which is funny because with her blonde hair, natural smile, and impressive figure, anyone would believe she was a California native.

Her place was perfect, with a canopy over her bed and just enough windows to allow a warm toned light to brighten the whole place during the day. As she was on the phone, in person she was exceedingly polite, forthright, and specific in her goals. She showed me designs for swimsuits she is determined to make into a business, then showed me samples that were as professionally crafted and sewn as I’ve seen on the racks of designer stores. Once again, I was impressed. When we finally got down to shooting, I instantly became a fan. She was very comfortable on camera, knew her angles, when to let herself go, when to be very aware of the camera and when to simply ignore it.
