TORCH SONG

I hadn’t shot with Zoe in months, mostly due to scheduling conflicts, but by the time we arranged to do another shoot around Christmas her life was already beginning to change. Originally I was the first professional photographer to ever work with her, but only a few short months later my online following, along with the images I’d shot of her, were getting her noticed by LA photographers. Soon she was shooting for some reputable magazines and making a small name for herself, and now barely two months later, she has some fascinating projects in the works.

She was afraid of the fire at first, but eventually she trusted me enough to play with the torch, which I had made earlier that afternoon. Though she held it a little too low, pointing it to the ground enough to experience the heat and flame of it briefly, overall she handled herself quite well.

As the sun went down, there was less and less light, and the blue sky started to blacken, so I hoped on my headlights and lit her up from behind. After only a few shots she asked if she could bring out the katana sword she had discovered in my house before we left. Though I used to love my sword collection, I’ve all but ignored it for over a decade, so it was funny that she was so excited by them. Reluctantly I said she could bring it, and even more reluctantly did I capture of a few images of her holding it, as you’ll see in the folder of photos.

Zoe is a sweetheart, and she definitely marches to the beat of her own drum. I wish her well and believe that she will be a force to reckon with soon.
