BACK TO BLACK
I hadn’t seen faceless model Whitney since our group Christmas shoot earlier in December. (Look back a few posts, it’s worth it!) A lot had happened in our lives since we’d met up last and we had a lot to share, so I was pleased that she made time to drive the half hour down to see me. We had no plans, just to sit on my sofa and chat, which was fine by me since I’ve felt characteristically uninspired.
She came over and was as sweet and radiant as ever, and we swapped stories of life, love, recent embarrassments, as well as her story of how she and her boyfriend had finally had a great threesome together with a lesbian friend-of-a-friend. This was all par for the course, and of course we also shared personal conflicts and honest confessions about our own lives and worries.
It was nice to just sit and be comfortable in a safe space with no judgment with a friend. Whitney has become a loyal and sincere friend to me since we met back in August, and I appreciate her fun, positive, realistic attitude and no nonsense approach to life.
Though I hadn’t really planned on it, when I asked her what we were going to do, about the future in general, she said she brought some articles of clothing in case we shot that night. Not one to complain, I quickly agreed, and I set up the lights in a matter of moments, pulled out the old “uninspiring sofa bed,” and we shot away. This was very similar to one of our first shoots, but it felt like stretching before you start to work out, a nice exercise in what you feel comfortable with, while also being productive and enjoying the process.
We only shot for a few minutes, but still long enough for both of us to feel good about it. It felt like when you’re in a longterm relationship and everything is just so comfortable and easy that you don’t have to do anything but be near each other and go through the motions. That sounds boring and uninteresting to the outside observer, but to the two people involved, it still feels genuine and real, because it is. That was this shoot with Whitney.
She left unceremoniously, still tired and hungover from her NYE party the evening before, but we made plans to shoot later this week since I am now jobless and my schedule is open for a while. I’m still unclear of what the weeks and months to come will hold for me, but for the first time ever in my life, I’m open and curious about the uncertainty of it all. Thoughts? Opinions?
