CATCHING UP

It had been almost a dozen years since I’d seen and worked with Kristy, who now goes by her modeling name Pure Rebel. In 2005 I was still figuring out what I wanted to be as a photographer, trying any technique and style with any woman who would be willing to step in front of my lens.

While on a visit to Seattle that summer to visit some friends, I looked on Model Mayhem and found Kristy, who was then barely 18. For some reason she agreed to shoot with me, and we ended up shooting a few times over the course of the week.

Fast forward to a couple years ago when I saw her new photos circulating around the internet with photographers I was familiar with. I was stunned! I hadn’t gotten to know her well, but in the dozen years since we met, I had no idea what had happened to her, and I certainly never expected her to be a successful traveling model, which is what she definitely is today.

I reached out to her and we’ve kept in touch loosely ever since, and while on a project at the Madonna Inn two weeks ago, she asked if we could finally meet up again. Needing a place to stay before the project was kicked into high gear, I let her crash on my sofabed, and we spent an hour or so that evening catching up, sharing stories about our lives, our careers, etc.

The next day, after a full day of working at my soul-stealing corporate office job, I brought her back to the office to shoot in Green Room, a mirrored and lit space with a door that locks. We ended up shooting two full, extensive sets in that room, and since it’s a DOUBLE POST month, I figured I’d share them both with you! Let me know what you think!
