DAY FOR NIGHT

In 2014 I was contacted by model Vex Voir, a nude and sometimes fetish model, who would be passing through my part of California and asked if I’d be willing to work with her and let her crash and my place. I looked at her work and found her shape and attitude in line with my style, so I told her to stop on by. Two weeks later on a Friday afternoon she pulled up friendly and eager to shoot.

Vex is interesting. Smart, interesting, somewhat quiet yet down-to-earth, she seemed to have a strong sense of herself and wasn’t afraid to disagree or speak her mind on a variety of topics. She was also very professional, spending hours answering emails, taking Polaroids to sell online later, and following up on all her social media accounts. I personally was impressed with all of this, especially since I have encouraged professional traveling models to be this dedicated for years.

Vex was from back east, and honestly said she’d never thought about becoming a full time model. She had always been openminded and outgoing, doing occasional shoots here or there, but it wasn’t until one day when an ex-boyfriend told her that she could NEVER be a full time model that she was determined to succeed at it. This probably tells you the kind of person she is.

Only an hour or so after her arrival, we drove north to a rocky beach and had her pose among the rocks. Vex was fearless, scaling rocks nude, playing with the fire-making materials I had brought, loving swinging the torch I had made. The colors were perfect, reminding me of the tones in Empire Strikes Back. As the sun set, we decided to get back on shore before the tide fully came in, but we stopped for a few moments to get a few shots inside a cave nearby. All in all, it was a great first shoot, the first of so many that weekend.
