THE RETURN OF REED

Last weekend I had the distinct honor of shooting once again with Suicide Girl phenomenon Reed Suicide, or @ReedAndWeep, as she goes by on Instagram. Though I’m not a fan of shooting models with large tattoos, thankfully Reed has most of hers below the waist and has a defining beauty that is up my alley, meaning timeless and universal.

We ended up shooting at this fabulous location in Van Nuys, minutes north of LA, and it was all by pure happenstance. For almost a year Reed and I had been debating when we were going to shoot next, always missing each other on visits to Los Angeles. Finally we made arrangements for last weekend, when finally we would both make time on Saturday afternoon. But now the eternal question. With couples dating, the eternal question is “What do you want to eat?” For models and photographers, it’s “Where are we going to shoot?”

We went back and forth via Instagram message for about half an hour until 10am when I needed to focus on my work at the office. About twenty minutes later I checked my phone only to discover a message from Matt, a fan of mine I’d never known before, who was freely offering me use of his fancy home, built in 1933, that was newly renovated and had a pool. He was hoping to eventually rent it out as a photo site, but was offering it now to me to get some exposure. It was like a bolt of lightning from the heavens! I was unsure if he was sincere, but as the days led up to the actual day, he was only more and more accommodating.

On Saturday morning I arrived early in order to feel him out, not knowing if he’d be some scary dude that would shove me in his basement with a gimp mask on. Turns out he is a talented artist and entrepreneur in his 50s who just is looking for something new to do with his time. Divorced a few years ago, he renovated the house in his creative image and wanted to be surrounded by like-minded creative types, and I was happy to oblige. We sat in his kitchen and talked for a long while, then he gave me a tour of the half acre lot around his house. I was impressed.

By the time Reed arrived with her boyfriend Andy, who is also a photographer, she was ready to go, and very pleased with our lovcation. Overwhelemed by all the good spots to shoot in, we decided to shoot first in the living room, which looked straight out of some 1960s Playboy magazine design layout. I described it thusly: “The house is vintage, yet has a modern feel, just like Reed, who is a classic, girl-next-door beauty but is definitely a contemporary lady.” Everyone liked this assessment.

As expected, this first part of the shoot went easily, as would the rest of the day. There are several more sets from this day at the house, but for now, enjoy Reed in and out of her vintage yellow lingerie series. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Are you a fan of Reed? Send me your feedback, positive or negative, and feel free to leave comments in the box below or in my DMs! And thank you as always for your continued support!!
