MOUTHFULS
Most of my shoots lately have been indoors. I think I’ve become more of a hermit lately, not wanting to deal with strangers, gawkers, idiots who don’t understand and never will. Then I received a very pleasant message from Angie Marie, a long time traveling model whose work I’d known for a while, saying she’d be in my area and wanted to work with me. Still tackling my huge backlog of images, that will take about two months of editing if I don’t shoot anything new, I wasn’t in an agreeable mood to shoot, especially without an idea in mind. Still, I knew it would be good for me and I agreed to let her come over for an hour or two one evening.
Thankfully, she was a mature, drama-free lady who was open, comfortable with everything and anything, and genuinely trusted whatever vision I might come up with. I literally had no idea of what to do, but we sat for a long time talking about people we knew and mutual experiences. She told me about her tragic experiences but how they made her the strong person she is today. Finally, she decided to lay out the outfits she had brought and I picked one or two out, then she changed and I had to come up with something on the spot. So I pulled out a large construction-area light I have, positioned a mirror I had made using spray paint, and just sat on the floor, directing her to move around in a small space. That was really it.
We shot like that for about half an hour, using mirrors and reflectors, swapping horrendous stories from our pasts, and finally, I was tired and so I offered to buy her pizza, which she happily accepted. We hopped in my vehicle, got the pizza, and came back and ate and chat some more. Finally, with no real reason, we both agreed we didn’t need to shoot anymore and she promised to be in touch the next time she was in my area.
It felt like the equivalent of a photography one-night-stand, but the kind where both people wished it could have been more. I’d love to shoot her every day given the time, and I’m sure she’d say the same. I didn’t start playing with the images until over two weeks later, and I must say it was far more enjoyable than many of my processing days have been. Some of these black and white images are my favorites I’ve done in a long while. What do you think? Do you like them? Do you want more like this?
How do you feel about Angie? Send me your feedback, positive or negative, and feel free to leave comments in the box below or in my DMs! And thank you as always for your continued support!!
