MORE OF THE SAME NONSENSE
Before I left for Italy I strived to get as much of my backlog done as possible, and surprisingly I achieved 99% of that goal. But me being me, I also scheduled several small shoots into my hectic schedule in the last days before I left because I can’t just not be doing anything. One of these shoots was with Brii Reed, a cute 18 year old that had been wanting to work with me for a while, who I finally agreed to have a test shoot with.
Brit showed up looking like she had in her Instagram images: Young, fit, curvy in all the right places, and essentially boring. Don’t get me wrong, she is a beautiful girl, sexy at times, and maybe a little too confident for what she offers. But at my age (I’ll be forty in a week), I have almost no tolerance for wasting time on people that don’t show me more than your average abilities, and Brii had average written all over her.
From the very beginning, she seemed like one of those spoiled, cocky girls that’s been lauded her whole life for achieving the bare minimum, even though she’s been dancing professionally since she was a young teen. She believed her own hype, and for various reasons, I wasn’t buying it or simply didn’t care. And when it came to modeling, she had a lot of rules.
Nothing see-through. No nudity. Nothing too creative. She wanted bikini shots, beach shots, shots on cars or motorcycles, cliched things that held zero interest for me. Moments into her test shoot, I was already disinterested. But I always feel guilty about just turning someone away, so I went through the motions and ended up shooting over 800 images that were mainly repetitive and boring.
Her poses were all the same. Simple and uninteresting. You can see it in the images. For a dancer, she didn’t have much creative drive, probably preferring for a choreographer to dictate moves to her than coming up with them on her own. Which is fine if you are a chorus girl or part of an ensemble, but I’m looking for stars to be in my photos, not background scenery.
Finally, when I introduced my experimental color shoot, requiring her to move and dance, did she finally come somewhat alive. I posted an Instagram Live video of it here on Patreon, many people seemed to enjoy viewing how I work. Still, as soon as she left, I had all but forgotten her. She had no staying power, and hence I haven’t edited or shared many photos of her anywhere publicly.
Maybe I’m just jet lagged from a long trip. Maybe I’m just in a bad mood. Maybe I’m just exhausted. But maybe she really wasn’t anything too special, and I hate typing that. But I’ve never been anything but honest with you all, so here is my story of Brii’s test shoot and what I recall.
What do you think of my writing, especially after viewing her images? Let me know in the comments below or in the DMs. Thank you all again for putting up with my wiring, moods, and nonsense, I couldn’t do my work without all of you!!
