I didn't think I'd have the time or opportunity to shoot with anyone here in Florence. First, finding models in Europe is HARD, let alone finding women to pose in lingerie or especially nude. The younger Italian generation is surprisingly conservative, and those that you finally convince to model immediately get so full of themselves that they expect you to pay through the nose for the benefit of shooting with them. It's a weird circus I'll never fully understand.
But thankfully I put out a call on Facebook and a local photographer recommended several women, and after a flurry of emails over several days, I finally settled on Daphne, who I had a minor contact through via Facebook and having a mutual friend of a friend. With only a day's notice she arrived on time and eager to begin.
She said she had never posed in lingerie before, so she was was nervous, but had followed me on Instagram for years and trusted me.Within moments she felt comfortable and relaxed, and soon we were laughing and discussing her passion for antiquities and I was soaking it all up. She spends her days researching and studying a series of manuscripts here in Florence dating back to the 13th century, and models fashion and glamor shots to pay the bills. Go figure!
As you can see from the attached screen caps, the shoot went very well, with minimal effort, and only the slight language barrier to be overcome, even though, like all Italians, she self-consciously said she spoke horrible English and then turned out to be almost fluent.
And yet no matter the national differences, all models are the same. As she hugged me and kissed me on both cheeks as she left, Daphne implored that I send her these screen captures as soon as possible so her boyfriend "wouldn't get mad." It seems having to get your boyfriend's approval is universal.
What do you think of Daphne? Want to see more? Please drop some comments or questions here on the post or in my DMs. Thank you all again for keeping up with my weird adventure here in Italy. Tomorrow I leave for Venice!
