Our drought in California has been pretty bad the last several years, so the last few weeks of sporadic rain has been a godsend. Since I've only experienced the dunes as a pale, wind-swept landscape, it was cool to see the track marks created by the wind compacted by so many days of moisture. It added an almost graphic design element to the ground. I have a tendency to get low and shoot upwards, so it was a nice challenge for me to stand and shoot down on my subject.
That may sound like a silly, almost unmentionable difference in approach, but it really is something worth noting. All artists get stuck in routines, it's important for us to remember to try new things from time to time.
