Looking back at 2020
Added 2020-12-31 18:59:27 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
We would like to dedicate this post to look back on how far we've come since we started working on this game for all our patrons and non-patrons. Starting with how we came up with this idea, how it went in 2020 and our future plans for 2021.
The prologue
The developer was already playing a.. uh.. "few".. adult themed games, so he knew what kind of games were available on the net. For some reason, there was no Winx Club themed game (yet). Creating games was one of the things he always wanted to do, so combining it with the lack of a Winx club game, and the wish to create a game, he just went for it.
After some experimenting with Renpy (The framework which the game runs on), he thought: "This could actually work!". The only thing missing was the art, which he sucks at (Currently the world map is created by the developer for example).
So he went searching for an artist who is willing to lewd up the winx girls and is easy to work with. There was one on his mind immediatly, and the conversation went something like this:
Developer: "Hey, I'm planning to work on an adult-themed winx club game and need someone to draw everything for it, you in?"
Artist: "Oh sure, why not. I'm in!"
And so we went and worked on the first version of the game in February, which was some sort of demo to gauge the interest and released it in July. Which was surprisingly a lot (by our standards).
~5 Months later
And now we're here! At the end of december, ready for the new year. In a nutshell, we're really happy with how it went this year, excluding the COVID fiasco. All our lifes were/are affected by the pandemic, but we're glad to hear most of you are doing well.
To get back on the topic of the game, we wanted to do more this year, like release a version with a certain redhead with a really revealing fairy outfit. We thought it would be easier to balance our work/study life to work on the game, but "reality is often dissapointing" -Thanos. That is the reason why we most of the time don't make promises with release dates, because we aren't working on this game full-time so it's hard for us to calculate everything outside our influence.
The good thing is that we're improving and learning more about game development itself. The artists also learns new techniques to get work done faster. We like what we've made and would like to keep up creating quality content. Animating stuff is still a b*tch though :(
We are happy though that we managed to get 4 of the 5 girls in it (Yeah we know, Aisha/Layla is also a Winx girl, but don't worry, she'll be in the game eventually ;) ). Only Flora is missing a scene now, but we're working on fixing that.
Here are some statistics:
- 4 versions in total released
- ~1260 images created/drawn
- 11600+ downloads on Itch.io
And the most surprising one:
- 54 patrons (currently on the date of this post)
We didn't expect this many supporters in 5 months, so thank you all!
Something we did in the meantime (while also working on the new version) is that we tried releasing the current version for the web browser, so people who don't want to download the game can just play it on the web. You can find the web versions here:
- Play it on newgrounds
- Play it on Itch.io (This one doesn't work yet, send a Ticket to itch.io already but they're kinda slow with actually helping us)
So now, you can just play it in your browser as our new years gift :) We will also update this on the main page. Be aware of the fact that this version is still very experimental, so things are left out or changed to make it work.
2021!
For 2021 we're planning on releasing more than 4 versions ;) The next version, as most of you already know, will include Bloom and some more main story progression. I think we have a solid basis now to work on.
Thinking about it further, we want to make this game an all-inclusive game with as much content as possible. For the ones familiar with the series, does Diaspro, Daphne, Roxy and Dark Bloom ring any bells? ;) The source material is enormous, so we try to include as much as we can!
We hope we can reach one of our goals of 200 patrons in 2021, so the artist can spend more time on the game, instead of working in a super market where people just keep coughing on her without a mask....
To summarise, in 2021, we keep working on the game to make it as good as possible. We also are going to support the web versions from now on so it can reach a greater audience. Things take time for 2d artwork, but we just keep going and we're sure we will work on this game for the coming years!
We just hope we can please everyone with the content we deliver :) Have a great new year everyone and stay safe!
Mandatory joke: See you all next year!
