Godfather System 108 Apollonia's new home
Added 2024-07-07 08:22:58 +0000 UTCThe sun's golden rays filtered through the crack in the curtains, casting a warm glow upon the rumpled bedding. Lorenzo lay there, his body still intertwined with Apollonia's naked form. They were both naked, their bodies tangled together, evidence of their passionate lovemaking throughout the night. He couldn't help but smile as he traced the curve of her cheek and the outline of her lips with his fingertips.
Apollonia stirred gently, her eyes fluttering open to meet his. "Hmm... I'm not dreaming. It's all real, you're really here with me in Sicily." She said, disbelief tinged with relief in her voice.
Lorenzo's lips curved upwards. "Of course it's real." He reassured her, his voice low and husky from the night's exertions. "And I'm here to take you back with me to the States, remember?"
Her eyes sparkled with joy, and she responded by pressing her lips against his in a deep, lingering kiss.

In Apollonia's family home, the once joyous atmosphere turned sour as she announced that Lorenzo would be taking her and their one-year-old daughter to the States. Although he had expected some hesitation, Lorenzo never imagined the storm that would ensue.
Apollonia's father, Signor, was the first to lash out. His face flushed crimson with fury, he jabbed a trembling finger at Lorenzo. "You're taking my daughter, and granddaughter away from me?" he bellowed, his voice shaking with barely restrained fury.
Signora, Signor's wife, shared her husband's distress. Her eyes, usually kind, were now filled with a mixture of hurt and anger as she looked at Lorenzo. "No, no! You can't take away my daughter!" she cried, dabbing her tear-stained cheeks with a handkerchief.
The tension in the room escalated as Apollonia's older brothers stared daggers at him. Ares, her second oldest brother, spoke first, his voice dripping with venom. "So, you came all the way to Sicily to steal my sister and niece away from us?"
Apollo, the eldest brother, was quick to join in. "You're not welcome here anymore! Get out of our house!" he roared, taking a menacing step forward.
Lorenzo tensed up, bracing for the confrontation he had hoped to avoid. As Ares lunged at him, he reacted instinctively, catching his brother-in-law's fist in midair and shoving him backward.
The room fell silent, save for the harsh breathing of the enraged men and Apollonia's muffled sobs. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she watched her family disintegrate before her very eyes. Her lower lip trembled, and her chest heaved with emotion.
Lorenzo's expression hardened as he glared at Apollonia's enraged family. "I'm here to take them because they're now part of my family," he said coldly, his jaw set in a firm line. "And nobody, not even the lot of you, can stop me from bringing them home with me."
Signor's face darkened. "Who do you think you are? Do you know you're in my house?" he demanded, jabbing a finger in Lorenzo's direction.
Lorenzo didn't flinch. Instead, he locked eyes with Apollonia's father. "I know damn well this is your house," he drawled. "But you should know damn well that the reason you've got such a house," he gestured disdainfully around the spacious room, "is because of the money I've been sending to support Apollonia and this damn family!"
Signora's lower lip trembled, but she wasn't backing down. "It is your responsibility!" she insisted, her voice wobbling.
Lorenzo's tone softened ever so slightly, but his words were just as cutting. "Yes, it is. But I only have a responsibility to my woman and our daughter, not the rest of you."
"You should be grateful that I'm such a good man," Lorenzo chuckled darkly, his eyes boring into the hearts of Apollonia's family. "If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be living this good life here in Sicily!"
Signor gritted his teeth, unable to refute the harsh truth. It was true; without the money Lorenzo had been sending over the years, they wouldn't be where they were now.
Lorenzo's gaze swept over each of their faces, as if he could read their minds and see right through their facades. "Apollonia," he said, tilting his head towards the stairs, "Go and pack your and our daughter's belongings. We're leaving."
Apollonia hesitated, torn between her love for her family and her husband. Tears brimming in her eyes, she finally nodded. "I'll be back in a moment," she said, her voice barely audible.
"Wait," Lorenzo called out, stopping her in her tracks. "You don't need to pack anything. I'll just buy you and our daughter whatever you need back in the States." He squeezed her hand reassuringly.
Apollonia's eyes clouded with fresh tears, but she managed a tremulous smile.
Lorenzo's cold, unyielding gaze swept over Apollonia's family. "As for the rest of you," he started, pausing for dramatic effect, "don't worry. I'm not a heartless man. I'll continue supporting the lot of you, since you are, after all, the family of my child's mother."
The Apollonia family couldn't meet his eyes, their guilt written all over their faces. They had, indeed, been worried that once their daughter and granddaughter left, Lorenzo would no longer support them.
Lorenzo didn't miss their discomfort, but he didn't back down. "I've never gone back on my word. But," he added, his voice taking on a steely edge, "don't ever think of standing in my way again."
With that, he turned on his heels and walked out of the room, the sound of his footsteps echoing through the now-silent house. The Apollonia family could only watch silently as he led their daughter and granddaughter out of their lives, likely forever. Not a single one of them made a move to bid them farewell.

Apollonia tightened her hold on her daughter, Hera, as she apologized to her man. "Lorenzo, I'm sorry for my family… they're not usually like this…"
Lorenzo's expression softened, and he nodded in understanding. "I know, Apollonia. It's alright."
As they walked, he continued, "It's just that they've become too reliant on me. They're worried that if I take you and Hera away, the support will dry up."
He chuckled humorlessly. "They might seem like they care so much about you, but deep down, all they're really worried about is losing my support."
Apollonia kept her head down, biting her lip to prevent any harsh words from spilling out. It was true, despite her being the reason for their success, her father still treated her like a common laborer, having her work under the scorching sun in their fields. It was one of the reasons why her skin had tanned so much.
She didn't want to burden Lorenzo with these troubles, so she kept silent. Little did she know, Lorenzo knew all of this, of course. He observed everything, and as the saying goes, the walls have ears. But he chose to stay silent, not wanting to make things worse in front of Apollonia and Hera.
However, he made a mental note to deal with the Vitelli family later.
Lorenzo didn't want to appear too upset in front of Apollonia and their daughter, Hera.
Sensing Apollonia's unease, Lorenzo put on a reassuring smile for her and their daughter, Hera. "Don't stress yourself out too much, alright? I've got everything under control."
He glanced at his watch and continued, "Our plane should already be waiting for us at the military base."
Apollonia nodded, and together with Hera, they followed Lorenzo to where a soldier was waiting for them in a jeep. The same soldier who had driven Lorenzo yesterday. They boarded the jeep, and the driver sped off towards the military base where their plane awaited them.
---
Time seemed to fly by as the plane touched down at a military training base in Los Angeles. Apollonia couldn't help but marvel at the unfamiliar sights and sounds around her.
Lorenzo gently took their sleeping daughter from her arms and handed her back to her as a high-ranking officer approached them. As the two men engaged in a hushed conversation, Apollonia couldn't help but eavesdrop. It seemed like they were discussing something important, but she couldn't quite make out the details.
The commander complimented both Apollonia and her daughter, Hera, on their beauty and strength. Apollonia blushed at the praise, but her attention was soon diverted by the hustle and bustle around them. Soldiers trained relentlessly, as if the weight of the world rested on their shoulders.
After about fifteen minutes, Lorenzo bade the officer farewell, and they made their way to a sleek, black car waiting for them outside.
As they got closer, the driver's side door swung open and a young man with a warm smile stepped out to greet them.
"Welcome back, boss," he said, extending his hand to help Apollonia and Hera into the backseat.
"Thanks, Mike. I see you've been waiting for a while," Lorenzo replied with a smile.
"I got the call from the base as soon as you landed. Couldn't let my boss's return go unnoticed," Mike said with a smile.
Lorenzo patted Mike on the shoulder before joining Apollonia and Hera in the car. As they settled in, Mike couldn't help but steal a glance at the sleeping infant in Apollonia's arms. 'So this is the boss's first child,' he thought to himself. 'A shame it's a girl.'
With a mental sigh, Mike closed the car door and returned to the driver's seat. He started the engine and pulled away from the base.
---
As the car navigated through the bustling streets of Los Angeles, Apollonia couldn't help but gape at the towering buildings and bright neon lights. Cars honked their horns, people rushed past in their finest suits and dresses, and she couldn't believe this was now her new home.
Lorenzo noticed her wonder-struck expression in the rear-view mirror. "What do you think? This city's not so bad, huh?" he asked, a hint of pride in his voice.
Apollonia turned to him with a warm smile. "I can only say that it's... different," she said diplomatically. "It's so... alive."
Lorenzo chuckled. "Oh, you're just not used to the commotion yet. You'll learn to love it here, trust me," he said, squeezing her knee reassuringly.
"I'm sure I will, but it's just so... different from Sicily," she said, unable to tear her eyes from the passing scenery.
Lorenzo laughed. "Well, you're in America now, bella. And as they say, when in Rome... or should I say, Los Angeles, do as the Angelenos do," he joked, earning a light chuckle from Apollonia.
As they neared their destination, the conversation between Lorenzo and Apollonia flowed effortlessly. Finally, the car pulled up in front of a mansion with a perfectly manicured lawn and Greek-inspired columns flanking the entrance. Apollonia's jaw dropped at the sheer opulence of the place. This was their new home?
Before they could even ring the doorbell, the massive double doors swung open, revealing two stunning women. Lorenzo stepped out of the car first, extending his hand to help Apollonia and Hera out.
Apollonia's gaze lingered on the women standing in the doorway. She knew who they were, even though she'd never met them in person.

You're right. I guess I didn't think clearly when I wrote the chapter.

2024-07-07 22:54:56 +0000 UTCMeh. I really DIDN’T like this chapter. That could have done way better. Italians and Greeks are tight knit families. They give more importance to family values above all else. It doesn’t matter whether you are a billionaire, they react the same. They want their family to stay near them. At least in the same country. What did Lorenzo expect, if he is taking Appolonia to states? Author took that sentiment and turned it into some money grabbing non sense which ridicules the cultural value ‘Familismo’. Remember this is taking place in 1940’s. The Italians at that time are orthodox. That is the reason the Italian immigration at that time consists of families instead of just 1 person. Even if only 1 person immigrate, once he settles down he will invite the rest. This is my 2 cents. Also I know this is Fanfic but still it didn’t sit right with me.
