Chapter 16 - Tsunade and Jiraiya

"Di~ [Strength +3], [Speed +3], [Stamina +5]"

After being sent to the infirmary for emergency treatment, Tatsuma finally had the mood to check his rewards. It had to be said that Minato was the best "fat sheep." The rewards he received were quite generous.

Thinking about the rewards he obtained, lying in the hospital bed with bandages all over his body, Tatsuma couldn't help but laugh out loud. At this moment, a strange voice suddenly came from outside the door.

"Are you so happy because you got hurt? Do you enjoy it?"

As the words fell, the small curtain surrounding Tatsuma's bed was pulled open, and a female ninja with golden hair appeared in his sight. After looking at Tatsuma for a while, he asked uncertainly, "Lady Tsunade?"

Seeing that Tatsuma recognized her, Tsunade was somewhat surprised, but she didn't think much about it. Although her reputation was not yet legendary, she was not an unknown ninja.

With her identity as the granddaughter of the First Hokage and a disciple of the Third Hokage, she had some degree of fame in the ninja world. It was normal for someone like Tatsuma, who probably had dreams of becoming a ninja for a long time, to know about her.

Tsunade nodded and said, "I happened to be passing by today. That blond kid outside begged me to treat you as soon as he saw me."

Hearing this, Tatsuma exclaimed with delight, "Really? Lady Tsunade, are you willing to treat me?"

Tsunade patted the pocket where her wallet was supposed to be. She had run out of money after lending it to Jiraiya a few days ago. Since she didn't have much else to do, she nodded and said, "Yes, but you haven't answered my question yet."

Before Tatsuma could reply, Tsunade's hand was suddenly covered in a blue chakra glow. As the chakra covered Tatsuma's wounds, he felt a tingling sensation.

In order to distract himself from the sensation, Tatsuma said, "No one likes getting hurt, it's just that winning feels great. If possible, I'd like to keep winning."

Hearing Tatsuma's words, an inexplicable anger flared up in Tsunade's heart. Was this kid being sarcastic?

However, Tsunade didn't explode. As a medical ninja, she couldn't harm her patient while treating them. But as she used her medical jutsu on Tatsuma, she furrowed her brows slightly. His recovery ability wasn't exceptional; compared to that blond kid outside who was already bouncing around after a few minutes, Tatsuma's recovery was far from impressive.

Recovery ability, to some extent, could determine a person's physical potential. For instance, Tsunade herself had a high recovery ability, even without medical jutsu. But in front of this kid, compared to other geniuses who stood out during their time at the ninja academy, his talent didn't seem particularly remarkable.

With this in mind, Tsunade suddenly asked, "What if you realize that after ten years of hard training, you still haven't achieved as much as others do in a year? What would you think?"

"Are you talking about talent?"

Tatsuma countered, Tsunade nodded, and Tatsuma pondered for a moment. The gap in talent could indeed be despairing sometimes. He had almost been disheartened by it.

But he had a chance to change his talent, which was luckier than most people. He smiled infectiously and said, "Everyone will eventually die, so why do we go through life? For me, as long as the result is the same, even if the process is different from others, it's still worth it.

If I spend ten years to achieve what others can do in one year, isn't that still an achievement? My talent might not be as good as others' right now, but perhaps someday I'll have a breakthrough?"

"Hmph, big words from a little brat."

Tsunade shook her head, finishing the treatment and standing up, saying, "Don't get these meaningless injuries in the future. Otherwise, while you're recovering, others will catch up and surpass you."

"Thank you, Lady Tsunade."

Feeling the absence of pain and even a good amount of fatigue lifted from him, Tatsuma expressed his gratitude to Tsunade. She waved her hand and left the infirmary.

Leaving the school building where the infirmary was located, Tsunade saw Jiraiya squatting on the ground, talking to the blond kid named Namikaze Minato.

Tsunade had initially planned to leave, but in the moment she turned around, she caught a glimpse of the rectangular shape protruding from Jiraiya's pocket. She changed her mind and walked up, saying, "Jiraiya, did you go to see the Hokage to get your mission reward?"

"Yeah." Jiraiya instinctively answered, realizing that Tsunade was smiling in a familiar way. He quickly covered his pocket and said, "No, I didn't. The village's finances..."

"Hand it over!"

"Tsunade, I really didn't..."

"Hand it over!"

Under Tsunade's intimidating gaze, Jiraiya reluctantly took out the money he had just received from the Hokage Tower. Tsunade grabbed it and was about to put it in her pocket, saying, "I'll pay you back when I win next time."

"Wait! Tsunade, leave me some money for food!"

Jiraiya begged, and Tsunade furrowed her brows. She counted three or four bills and handed them back to Jiraiya. With a relieved sigh, he at least wouldn't go hungry for the next few days.

But soon, he remembered something else and asked, "Aren't you supposed to be leaving? Why are you still at the school?"

Before Tsunade could reply, Minato said, "I met Lady Tsunade and asked her to treat Tatsuma."

"Oh."

"It's already done, he can go home anytime."

Tsunade finished speaking and left, already picturing herself in the gambling den this afternoon.

Jiraiya pocketed the money and said, "Get your friend too. I'll treat you guys to some grilled ramen."

"Wouldn't that be too extravagant?"

Minato hesitated. After all, the money Jiraiya had was probably more than he had managed to save up over the past two years. He didn't want Jiraiya to go hungry just because he treated them to ramen.

Jiraiya waved his hand with grandeur and said, "It's just money, not a big deal. I can earn tens of thousands just by completing a random mission. I just happened not to have it on me right now."

Minato was somewhat skeptical, but he couldn't outright refuse Jiraiya either. He reluctantly called over Tatsuma, who had just recovered from his injuries. As soon as Tatsuma saw Jiraiya, his eyes lit up.

Jiraiya was taken aback by the way Tatsuma was staring at him. He was quite familiar with this look—it was the same

kind of fervent, devoted gaze he had seen when someone was peeping into the women's bath.

"Kid, why are you staring at me like that? What do you want?!"

Finally, at the ramen shop, Jiraiya couldn't take it anymore. He asked nervously, his voice trembling a bit.

(I made a slight mistake in the translation of the previous chapter, it wasn't Minato that was injured but actually Tatsuma, I fixed it now though.)
