Chapter 12: The Nara Clan's Secret Technique

After the completion of the first round of tests, Tatsuma and Minato managed to secure excellent scores thanks to the additional points from "千本" (Senbon), but they couldn't help but regret not choosing to take the test in the afternoon for the second round, which was a practical combat test.

In this combat test, two randomly chosen students from the same class would engage in three rounds of combat, facing different classmates each time, and their overall scores would be calculated.

Tatsuma had quite the stroke of luck when he drew Nara Shikaku as his opponent. As their eyes met, they exchanged a knowing smile. On the other hand, Minato drew Akimichi Choza as his opponent.

Minato and Choza had their bout first, battling intensely for five minutes. Eventually, Choza's bag of potato chips fell outside the designated area, and while he scrambled to retrieve them, Minato narrowly secured victory in the first round.

Next was Tatsuma's turn to face Shikaku. As they stepped into the arena, Shikaku maintained a serious demeanor and declared, "Sakamoto Tatsuma, I'll show you the Nara Clan's inherited secret technique!"

Tatsuma nodded in acknowledgment and responded, "The Nara Clan's secret technique, huh? I'm looking forward to it. But even if you possess a powerful technique, I'll still come out victorious!"

Observing the tension between the two students, Sarutobi Heppu expressed his eagerness, saying, "Begin with the seal of reconcoliation!"

However, before the combat could even commence, Shikaku let out a reluctant cry of defeat, supporting his knees with his hands and whispering, "Too strong, I've actually lost."

Tatsuma, cooperating with the act, panted heavily and added, "Indeed, the Nara Clan's secret technique is impressive. Even so, I could only win by a narrow margin."

The system chimed, "Ding ~ 【Wisdom +5】"

"Nara Patriach! Look at this! The inheritor of the Nara Clan, how sensible he is!"

Touched by just a couple of sentences that increased his wisdom limit by five points, Tatsuma was almost moved to tears. In this moment, they resembled kindred spirits, like heroes who shared a deep understanding.

Originally expectant and ready for an exciting showdown, Heppu's face darkened as he watched the exchange. With clenched teeth, he spoke, "The Nara Clan's secret technique, huh? Winning by luck, huh? Get out of here!"

Seeing Heppu's rage, the two students let out a sigh of relief as they walked away shoulder to shoulder, heading towards the waiting area.

Back in the waiting area, they caught sight of Minato's resentful gaze. He was engaged in a fierce battle with Choza, and if it weren't for Choza valuing snacks more than victory, Minato might have lost the first round.

As for these two, with a glance, a meaningful exchange, they had already plotted the outcome. It was almost unfair!

For the second round of combat tests, it was either a coincidence or Heppu's calculated revenge, as Shikaku and Inuzuka Tsume were matched up. Meanwhile, Tatsuma was matched with Uchiha Tenpu, and Hatake Minato was matched with Hyuga Chido.

Minato: ??? I wasn't slacking off, okay?

Shikaku wore an expression of utter despair as he looked up at this brutal world of exams. Being assigned to be the first one to participate, he reluctantly dragged his weak body into the arena.

With the seal of reconcoliation , Heppu exchanged a look with Inuzuka Tsume. Tsume nodded and revealed a "vicious" smile. Satisfied, Heppu announced, "Begin!"

"I concede!"

Watching Inuzuka Tsume charge towards him, Shikaku hastily tried to surrender. However, Tsume paid no heed, stuffing a bag of freeze-dried dog treats into Shikaku's mouth, rendering him speechless.

Then, in a swift motion, Tsume performed a leg-throw takedown, straddling Shikaku. His left hand pinned Shikaku's mouth shut, preventing him from spitting out the dog treat, while his other hand rained down punches.

"Alright, alright, cough, Tsume! Tsume! You've won."

Seeing Shikaku with a lost tooth due to the pummeling, Heppu had to step in and declare the test over. Satisfied, Tsume got up and left the arena.

Shikaku proceeded to spit out the dog treats, and with a glance at Tatsuma and Minato massaging their legs, he closed his eyes, a single glistening tear rolling down his cheek. He lay on the ground motionless.

"Tenpu, Chido!"

Seeing Shikaku looking like he was about to pass out, Heppu grew anxious. After checking, he noticed a trace of fresh blood at the corner of Shikaku's mouth.

"Wait here for a moment. I'll take Shikaku to the infirmary for a check-up."

Saying so, Heppu lifted Shikaku onto his back and headed towards the school's infirmary. However, the result was that, twenty minutes later, when Shikaku was brought back by Heppu, his injuries hadn't improved. On the contrary, he had two large bumps on his head. His feeble attempts at disguising himself were nothing in front of the doctor.

They could only bully Heppu, who cared but was disorganized. Nonetheless, Shikaku managed to buy Tatsuma and Minato an additional twenty minutes.

After a few more rounds of battles, it was soon time for Tatsuma and Uchiha Tenpu's showdown. As they entered the arena, Tenpu held his head high, adopting an air of superiority. He sneered, "Did you intentionally dress yourself up so pitifully to have an excuse after losing to me? Humph! No matter how hard you try, you can never defeat the Uchiha Clan. Any makeup will only make you look more like a clown!"

Hearing Tenpu's taunts, Tatsuma's excitement surged. He smiled and replied, "That's right. Faced with the highly gifted Uchiha Clan, my talents are indeed lacking. However... I will win!"

Seeing the tension between the two, Heppu couldn't help but express doubt this time. After all, the previous bout between Shikaku and Tatsuma had opened his eyes. Nevertheless, he still said, "Begin with the seal of reconciliation."

Hearing this, the two instantly formed the seal of reconciliation. This time, Tatsuma quickly mobilized his chakra, much more proficiently than when he first entered the school. He had become skilled at refining and manipulating chakra.

"Start!"

As Heppu finished speaking, he gave the two a cautious glance. However, he noticed that Tenpu had instantly drawn several shuriken and threw them at Tatsuma. Finally, he was convinced that Tatsuma wouldn't cause trouble.

After all, how could the Uchiha Clan cooperate with others?

Facing the incoming shuriken, Tatsuma didn't lower his chakra-concentrating hand but instead crouched low to dodge two shuriken aimed at his forehead and throat. Then, he grabbed the shuriken aimed at his chest and abdomen, seemingly at ease. However, Tatsuma became serious, because Tenpu was able to throw multiple shuriken simultaneously. Although they weren't very powerful, they easily diverted one's attention.

As expected, as soon as Tatsuma stood his ground, three more shuriken flew towards him. Tatsuma used the two shuriken he had confiscated to hit Tenpu's shuriken, but in that instant, something was amiss.

There should have only been one shuriken left, yet in Tatsuma's eyes, there were still three shuriken. Seeing this, Tatsuma understood that Tenpu had not thrown out three more shuriken during his dodge. 

It was likely that the three shuriken were released simultaneously in two rounds, which meant that there were still four shuriken he was facing now.
