Dude, I just clapped. YES! You put it so perfectly. DS9 is my favorite of the series I've seen too. I respect TOS for what it is, TNG was good, but damn DS9 just GOT IT. I haven't seen Voyager yet because I just want to go back and rewatch DS9. Enterprise was really great to IMO and I know thats an unpopular opinion on the ST fandom lol, but oof some of those episodes were amazing. I also liked the lens the stories were told through since it was about Human's first footsteps into civilized space and it showed how hard it was for humans to shake that 'ME ME ME' mindset. While I watch TNG I feel like...there are relatable human elements there, obviously the characters are human (minus a few ofc) but they seem so elevated and evolved from what I know, so it def feels like fiction of a universe I'll never know. ENT was more relatable bc I saw the modern human's flaws in the cast and felt like...wow this could possibly happen in my lifetime (LOL). Then DS9 touched on so much more. While there were only a handful of episodes from TNG and even less in TOS that really hit ME in the heart, I have found myself OPENLY SOBBING from episodes from DS9 and ENT - most memorable was 'The Visitor'(DS9) which has me clutching my chest just as I think of it. I LOVED the focus on fatherhood and how sensitive and kind Capt. Sisko is as a character while also being an incredible leader. God Im all teary eyed. Just imagining the weight of that representation in '93 and even now just knowing that the black community has such a powerhouse of a character to represent them is amazing. *happy sigh* I am so glad to hear you see the beauty that is DS9. Have you seen Enterprise, what did you think? I havent even peeped a second of Discovery, or Picard unfortunately. Have you? Oh! Another reason I dont think TNG is my fav was just...I grew so tired of the Q and the Borg. At first its like, yeah they def represent the opposite of what makes being humans human, but after a while it just felt like beating a dead horse and monotoned? Does that make sense? ANYWAY THANKS for geeking out with me lol

My personal favorite is DS9. As for why, I'd say probably because it's fundamentally different from any of the other series, being based on a stationary location instead of a ship exploring the galaxy, and the character dynamics and plot progression were also done in a different way, featuring far more conflict within the primary cast and a far more serial-like storytelling style. But my opinion may also be colored by the fact that I took some time to warm up to TNG and felt that the early seasons were rather weak and tried too hard to evoke TOS memories, frequently at the expense of quality storytelling. DS9 came along right about the time that I felt like the showrunners for TNG were seriously getting the hang of things and hitting their stride. DS9 started out at that high level of storytelling AND was a new creature in a familiar environment.
