Musings: April

Hey, y’all. Another month, another musing. This one’s a doozy, so please read the whole thing.

So. Let’s start with the elephant in the room- Coronavirus. Covid-19. Shit’s intense. I hope y’all are staying safe, staying home as much as possible, washing hands, practicing social distancing, all the usual advice you’ve been inundated with for the past couple weeks. I know I’m probably the last person you’d turn to for advice for something like this, but let me add my voice to the chorus- this shit is serious, do not mess around thinking you’re too young and healthy to get it. If you don’t treat it as a serious threat, not only will it fuck YOU up, it’ll fuck up everyone you care about. Wear masks. Make masks. If you can’t get masks, cover your face in public- anything is better than nothing. When you get home from a public space, put your clothes straight in the washing machine. There are people calling it fake, a hoax, some sort of political maneuver to, I dunno, discredit the president or mandate vaccines or cover up the symptoms from 5e radiation exposure or whatever. It’s real. I know I’m only talking to like 50 people here, but, just… both of my parents are almost 70. If I didn’t use whatever tiny bit of influence I have to try and keep them safe, and they caught it… I couldn’t handle the guilt.

So. Moving on… I was gonna post both the early access stories last month, but somehow managed to miss a thirty-one-day window. You know how, like, you say you’re gonna do something at 5, then look up from what you were doing and see it’s 5:01, and go like ‘well, guess I’ll have to do it at 6, then’? It was like that, but with Saturdays. Whoops, missed the weekend, gotta wait for the next one. ADHD is a bitch and a half sometimes… Anyways. Both early access stories will be going public momentarily after this post, and I hope you all enjoy them.

Now, remember how I said, when I run out of early access stories, I’d have to make a decision about how to proceed? Well, that time is upon us. It’s been six months since I got this job, and about five since I last managed to actually write a chapter. I’ve tried a couple things to try and make doing both work and patreon writing happen, different schedules, sleeping differently, increasing my meds, but to no avail. Work’s been demanding more and more time and energy as they ramp up to the introduction of a new ‘story mode’ to the game. The original plan was 20 hours a week, and last week I logged 35. I hate to say it, but the conclusion is inevitable- I can’t do both, not reliably, and not in a way that isn’t going to totally destroy me. So, I’m officially going on hiatus. I’ve paused payments for May already. I was going to pause the payment for april, too, but I missed the window on that, too. I'm not sure how long it'll be, honestly. Maybe I'll be able to start writing again once things settle down at work. Maybe not. Or I might get fired tomorrow for some reason. Shit's crazy right now, I dunno what's gonna happen. All I can say is, for the foreseeable future, I'll be on hiatus.

So, for the TL;DR- Job's taking up too much time, I can't write stories and do the job at the same time, so I'm going on hiatus.
