Seagate laptop hdd?

The server for tbib.org is reaching max capicity, its currently running 8 WD RED 1TB's in a raid 6. Its almost at 90% usage and it increases 2% every month so within 5 months its going to be full.

So the solution is to upgrade a different server with bigger hdds so i don't have any downtime. I use desktop grade hdds because they cost only half of what a 'enterprice' hdd would cost and since i only use MDADM (Linux software raid) its fully compatible. Raid cards tend to kick out desktop drives but i don't use those.

These are 2'5 drives, the same drives as you would use in a laptop. Because i use small 1U (smallest form) servers they either come with 4X 3'5 desktop size or 10X 2'5 laptop sizes and i mainly use the laptop sized because more drives = more performance.

Now look at the picture, i personally find it hilarious seagate (the right one) calls this model series: laptop drive. No idea what laptop can take such fat drive, i put the WD next to it for comparson haha!

Old 8X WD RED 1TB RAID 6 = 5.5T

New 6x Seagate 3TB RAID 5 = 14T
