patreon

Changes to the $20+ tier!

So, it's been brought to my attention recently that, while the $20+ tier might have been a good idea when the patreon was just starting, it's not doing a very good job anymore. I considered several possible ways to fix it, but none seemed to work in the long-term. Now, I think I figured out a fix, though, and after considering it for a while, I think it should work without getting too crazy.

Currently, I alternate between my own projects and commissions, with a single list for commissions. This forces patrons who pay per chapter to compete with with one-time bids, which isn't particularly fair. So, to fix it, I'm going to split the list. One five-slot normal commissions list, one five-slot patreon commissions list, which will work like the other one, just based on patreon pledges instead of offers. So, from now on, it'll be rotating my writing efforts between my current project, my commissions, and my patron commissions. And, to keep the patreon list from stagnating, while still rewarding generous pledges, I'll be multiplying priority. Each story starts with priority equal to the current pledge. Each time I post a patron story, that story's priority is reset to 0, then I add the current pledge to every story on the list.

For example: Patron A pledges 50, Patron B Pledges 30, and patron C pledges 20. A gets written first, and when it gets posted, it's priority drops to 0, then goes back up to 50, but B's priority is 60 now, so B goes next. After B's is posted, C is up to 60, but A is up to 100, so A goes again. After A, B is up to 60, but C's up to 80, so C goes next.

Basically, every story will get a turn, but those with higher pledges come up in the rotation more often.

That's not a very comprehensive explanation, but I'll have to  try to figure a less-convoluted way to say it later. For the moment, if you've got questions, ask away. In the meantime, I've gotta go fix a bunch of stuff to fit the new rules.

Comments

Well, it's cyclical, so the order's not terribly important. If you prefer, it could be said it goes patreon commissions > project > commissions.

Why would patreon commissions be last if your getting monthly money from patreon commissions and not others?
