And So the Dragons Danced is the third fic I’ve ever written to make it from the beginning to the end. I loved this story, and it brings me so much joy to know that she of you did as well. Natsu was a fun character to write, and his forays into warmongering were entertaining beyond my wildest expectations. It would never have been possible without you, so thank you!

This story was a foray into adaptability. I initially built Natsu as a character designed to succeed until he couldn’t anymore. I never envisioned him winning, or even beating the Avatar. I envisioned him engaging in guerrilla warfare across the earth kingdom with Aang on his tail. I foresaw a world where he acted as the final test for one of my favourite characters. In a lot of ways, this story was inspired by the Killing Joke. It started with the question of— who would Aang actually be willing to kill? The answer, the biggest, baddest, war criminal out there, and that was the path Natsu was initially meant to take. This story was to end in a similar ay to the comic, Aang given the knowledge that the only way to stop Natsu would be to kill him, and Natsu at his mercy. But one thing I’ve learned from years of writing is to listen to the characters when they tell you who they want to be. This was Natsu’s story even more than it was mine. He decided who he wanted to be, and what he wanted to do. I simply put pen to paper. So thank you, Natsu!

The question on your mind might be— ‘what next?’. Well, the answer to that is the World of Ice and Fire. I’ve finished one Naruto fic, one Pokémon fic, and now an ATLA fic. I’ve tried playing in this sandbox twice and failed on both instances. This time, I’ll be more reasonable. The chosen character? Leanor Velaryon. The chosen period? Why, the Dance of Dragons, of course. I’ll spend today rereading the relevant parts of Fire and Ice, so I feel ready and inspired enough.

The Prologue should go live by the week’s end, so do look forward to that.
