Posing System Plans

As I start to work on version 0.6, I wanted to give you guys some insight into the development process by telling you about my plans for changes to the posing system.
First off, I'm planning to improve the posing system in a few areas:
- More natural results. The current posing system doesn't do very good job of keeping the body in a natural position as you grab and drag stuff around. For example, the spine tends to kink in one spot instead of curving smoothly and the thighs can end up bizarrely twisted. I want to fix this so that the body is never ends up a position that looks unnatural.
- Better responsiveness. Right now, if you grab one of the hands and drag quickly, the hand will trail behind the controller. It's also difficult to make small adjustments like rotating the hand. I want fix both of these so that the actor immediately follows the controller.
- No excess movement. Currently if you extend a hand to the left, the entire torso will end up leaning slightly left. Ideally just the arm would move until it was fully extended and only then would the torso start to lean.
In addition to those improvements, I'm also planning some new interactions:
- Multi-controller posing. Use both controllers simultaneously!
- Pinning. Instead of just dragging and letting go, you'll also be able to drag then press a button to pin the limb in place. The limb will then stay in exactly that position as you make other adjustments.
- Motion Pinning. Like pinning, except instead of just pressing a button, you'll hold it down and drag to trace out a path. The pin will then move back and forth along the path automatically, pulling the limb with it. This should make for a nice intuitive way to create your own simple animations.
You should start seeing these changes in version 0.6. But depending on how complex they turn out to be, I might spread them out over multiple versions.

2017-12-01 12:04:19 +0000 UTCI'm still here! Posing is turning to harder than I anticipated but I am slowly making progress. I am reading all the suggestions posted here, and I'll work on those things once posing is done.
