Nuki News #1 - Accountability; A mental shift!

Why take a chance at patreon like this? I want to give a bit more value for pledging, and that means giving more of myself.. If you’re here, you’ll be coming aboard my journey to being a successful furry artist. It’s a bit of an insane goal, but it’s 2020, why not? Thank you to those who have supported me for these past 9 months, or however long you’ve been pledging!

If you ever find you’re not able to support me with pledges, that’s fine! You can still keep up with my journey by following me here on Patreon! You’ll get Nuki News still, just 3 weeks later than the $1 pledges. That dollar goes a long way with me though so I’m incredibly grateful for it!

 ------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------

That intro out of the way, the first Nuki News issue was initially about accountability! Which can really make me look like a fool down the road if I don’t make good on this. But the more I thought about accountability, I noticed there’s a lot of mental challenges you have to overcome to fulfill a new promise or resolution!

These changes to my Patreon were a strategic choice, because it is holding me accountable with something to share with you all every week. About how I’m progressing toward my goal of becoming a full time and successful artist, but I’ve also managed to have it double as a way for me to work on my laptop, away from my desk, as at times there are issues posting on mobile device(plus keyboards are nice).

In a way, I’m ‘hacking my mind’ to develop habits that I think will help me in the short(and long) run! If I can get used to working on my bed or couch for instance, I can complete commissions and obligations away from sitting at a desk all day and keep my productivity up- and making patreon content solely on my laptop is a great habit to get me to use the laptop more. Why is being away from my desk important? Well, mind-hacking can go horribly wrong, too.

You see, when I got my desk some years back, I needed a desk with decent space for a keyboard, monitors, and my medium tablet. Looking online, most desks don’t offer much space in them. Just enough room for monitor. So, I think, “Oh! I have a wonderful desk at work, let me find out what kind of desk it is, and get it at home!” And I go and ask my boss the model of desk we use. If you’re curious, it’s the Bekant from IKEA - pretty adorable, though it’s more of a table!

Cool, I get the desk, set it up in my corner of the apartment, and I bam, I can do art at home! How can this go wrong? Well, let me put it this way; I go to my day job, 9 hours a day, at this model of desk. And then I come home late at night to draw, and then wake up to draw at the same desk. So my brain has gotten a lot of association with this desk and doing work. This isn’t a bad thing of course, in fact you could argue the mental association will help me be more productive! Well...what if you’re tired of your day job? And you tend to get distracted often there? It stood to reason that, I ended up getting distracted at home, too, when working at the same sort of desk. Those who visit my streams know I I get on myself for visiting twitter while live on stream. You see what I mean?

It doesn’t mean I can’t focus while at work or at home doing art at my desk. But it’s pretty limited to a single chunk of time, then I gotta get up and do something else. So if I’m able to do work and be productive away from my desk, I can make better use of my time, and be with my boyfriend and roommate or friends. I’m no psychologist, but I do think there are some profound impacts your environment can have on you! Even something simple like a desk!

So, to cap this off, consider what things around you that might have a positive or negative impact on you when you want to make a change in your routine or how you change workflow. For me, I could choose to pawn off this desk and get a new one(I hate being wasteful so that’s not likely- and, it is a great desk for me) but there are options I can explore- such as decorating my desk to be very different from my dayjob’s desk! Recognizing changes to your mind because of what’s around you is important to helping you change it or creating a solution to deal with it.

That’s the end of the first Nuki News! I suppose it’s less-news-more-advice, but in a way I’m thinking of my younger self and what he’d want to know, to get to this point. If you have feedback on how I handle these, or any topics you’d be interested in having me cover, ask away!

Oh I'm so glad this was helpful!! I'll essentially be doing these once a week(3 times a month, one week used for the AMA results) so there's lots more to come this year. :3
