One of the biggest fights I ever had with my wife was early on in our dating was about whether video games offered any kind of value. I grew up a gamer and was arguing that you could learn a lot from video games, and she was basically very dismissive. These days I only play a few hours a week, generally story based RPGs. I agree that I also find it very therapeutic, a way to disconnect and unwind. My wife will even see when I'm particularly wound up and ask "do you want to play your game for a few hours?" haha. But there's definitely a healthy balance, as there is in all things in life. Moderation is key.

I play a variety of games, and sometimes I do get very invested in one for a period before inevitably moving onto another one; I don't think gaming has every been a major problem for my real life. Just wanted to get that introduction out of the way. I can say, for casual players who get invested in "mastering" (I use that semi-lightly) games, it is gratifying in the sense that you took on the task of learning a new set of rules to existence, improving that understanding, advancing skill, tech, storage, vehicle availability from basics to - whatever you want... There is a very valid logistical value placed upon the venturing available via video games. Heck, books used to be virtually the same concept without the ability to implement the ability for complex interaction of the storytelling. (Although, there were those Goosebumps books that did that.) I've been playing gtav on fivem lately. It's quite fun. I don't interact with other players too much. Here and there I do. I'm usually focusing on grinding money in solo ways. Unrelated to that - Lots of people take the game way too seriously and are not roleplaying characters. It's not supposed to be an extension of yourself that feels free to let your most toxic elements show. Wrapping up, I feel gaming is therapeutic to me. The time management (depending on what game), the applied mindset of "succeed" is good as well.
