Jesus was a socialist immigrant. Yet it's the very people who despise such ideals who claim they are holy beings close with God and his word. I digress...

I think a lot of this shows how Charlie is the most empathetic member of the gang in a lot of ways, you just don't see it too often because he's usually a bystander that lets things happen a lot, which is what his mother essentially raised him to do. I do want to be real here, Charlie's mom isn't a good mom, she brought strange men to the house when Charlie was like 5 (when she was a sex worker). She let her brother (uncle Jack) abuse him as well, and also seemingly didn't care about his education and whether or not he could read or spell. As someone who has this kind of dynamic (abuse/indifference, then being showered with 'love') with a parent myself, also my mom, it's hard to hate them or not care for them despite what they allowed to happen. Because, at the end of the day, she still 'raised' him and her presence is still comforting to Charlie. Also yes! This episode and many others in Sunny almost always have a core message, this time obviously being scams. As a non-religious person who has a lot of religious trauma from my childhood, Dennis's speech here is so funny. I wouldn't say I think the whole of the church is a scam but in America especially, they really hate a lot of stuff, and also don't actually follow the bible, especially not the big 'don't solicit money from people worshiping' thing that Jesus threw a table about. Love the twists in this episode and largely enjoy it! Though a certain person being here does dampen it a bit, I still don't think he had enough screen time to make me hate it. Especially as someone who can relate to Charlie sadly.
