As you pointed out, it was a messed up and emotionally immature way of dealing with the issue by Troy; and he did step up to do the right thing. I have to wonder, however, if he was willing to see the error of his ways and rise up to a higher level of emotional maturity for her sake, could they not have taken another run at it? I will say, it does fit the show better to have them break-up, as the show has never been too heavy into any pairings at this point. A little "will they won't they" here and there, sure. I won't elaborate too much on the specific pairing, or the age difference that NO ONE mentions the way they mention that of Jeff and Annie. I will simply say that I think they were good for each other for a period of time, but not so much long-lasting. The Dean was, of course, hilarious as usual! The actors performances in this episode show just how S4 was able to keep the show alive for another two seasons even after what many considered an abomination of a season. (Although, Dan Harmon's return should be noted as a factor in that, as well.) The actors know the study group, they know each other, and they know the magic of the show. If they had phoned it in, the chances of another season being picked up by NBC may not have happened. I know at least Joel McHale made a personal bid on that Dan MUST return if they want to keep the show running. There's an interview out there. I'll try to edit it if I have time to find it.
