I actually don't mind this episode all that much. I gotta be honest, I actually don't think I ever watched it in full. At the time, I was a bit behind and wanted to catch up to season 11 before the series finale aired so I skipped through some of them. In retrospect, its pretty decent. At least in terms of the Covid Episodes. You are almost through the worst of it. The absolute worst episode in the entire show is yet to come, but so is, ironically, one of the best episodes in the entire show, so don't feel too discouraged.

I feel the exact same way about these episodes.. especially this one and the Daryl one. When I rewatch the show I skip these two. But I love the next one and the one after

I also the vibe Gabe and Aaron. They’re a good pairing. Very humorous together, even given the circumstances

One of my favorite things about Gabe is, even after all these years, he still uses the machete. That was the first weapon Carl showed him how to use. Also, you’ll see a bit more about dormant walkers (called Lurkers in the comics) which is kinda cool. If unprovoked or a long period of time, they just slip into this almost unconscious state where you can walk around them unnoticed if you’re quiet. I think it’s the first episode of season 11 that we see a good example of Lurkers

You also have to remember that these episodes aired in the very start of 2021. And with pandemic filming rules, including social distancing and off-site post-production. There hadn’t been a traditional TWD season in the fall, and in the winter; really not since Spring 2020 when it cut off at S10.15 w/o finale. And itje show wasn’t expected to come back until fall of 2021 with S11. Also, all regular TV was pretty much at a standstill at that time. That context and how it was for TWD viewers during the COVID experience may be lost when trying to stream-binge so far after the fact.

This wasn’t part of a longer season. These 6 episodes were the “bonus” episodes, basically Covid era ones where they want to give you something separate from 10 and not 11 — “10c” as they labeled it. They are gap episodes. The full 22 episode season 11 came later, split into three parts.

Yeah also wasn't a huge fan of this episode. Ultimately pointless, but they get benefit of the doubt for being "covid" episodes lol. This one though...eh I still don't see the point. Am not a fan of Gabriel or Aaron all that much anyways, they both kinda bore me and an episode of them two together? 🤣 Good news is the final of this covid episodes IS really good lol.

Aaron & Gabriel have come such a long way from when we first met them

What is the craziest thing to me is that the walking dead, a show based on a comic, is better at emulating a video game than tlou show (a little bit, don't hate tlou hbo buuut). They do actual scavenging and searching for supplies, they have nail bombs and molotov cocktails, two things the last of us game had in spades but the show can't do because of the restrictive amount of episodes they gave themselves. If this show, made during the pandemic, can have extra long seasons why can't a show based on a highly regarded game made (mostly) after? It's so confusing to me. I miss 20 episode long seasons genuinely. I'd rather a filler episode than an episode that's pacing has to jump the shark often to reach a specific conclusion. Sorry, this episode just makes me remember how little they do anything related to scavenging or making weapons like molotovs or nail bombs, especially in season 2 of tlou hbo. It's a good way to sit with the characters and learn more about them, scavenging and longer episode seasons.
