This was the S10 finale. By the time this aired in Oct 2020 (thanks, pandemic), AMC has already announced in Sept 2020 that S11 would be the final season with 24 total episodes. But they did want To wait a whole year until Fall 2021 for that new season, so they did six bonus episodes and takes them on as “10c.” They are COVID protocol episodes filmed in early 2021.

2025-06-26 00:35:26 +0000 UTCThe final seasons extension actuallt wasn't planned ahead lol. The showrunner Angela Kang had written seasons 11 under the assumption there'd be a season 12 but then AMC announced online season 11 was the final season as a result of Frank Darabont winning a lawsuit against them and being entitled to royalties to every seasons. To avoid paying him more they last minute decided season 11 would be the ending and Angela Kang had to rush to rewrite her stories and condense them into one season, which is why so many plot points in 11 seem a bit rushed and disjointed.

2025-06-25 14:35:23 +0000 UTCLove that you guys picked up on the Maggie and Negan tension before they even interact because yeah, very awkward to say the absolute least. And she should be pissed at him, because even if Negan's changing it doesn't change people's memories of what happened. I always thought that Negan was a father figure to Lydia in some way, or mentor. She lost her dad too young and found someone who protects her like her dad did. Also no, Negan and his wife Lucille didn't have any kids but he told Michonne in an earlier episode when she visited his cell that they always wanted a kid. He was also a gym teacher on top of that, teaching kids Lydia's age. He's naturally protective over them, which is why he and Carl bonded well despite everything. Also good catch Erika, realizing Negan looks different, his actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan is amazing at facial acting, watching it is so good. If you compared a picture of Negan when we first met him and Negan now he feels so different, not just because of the character arcs but also JDM's acting and it's almost all in his face/eyes. There's way less (pretty much no) rage and sadistic glee in his eyes, it's so well done. A storyline like that could've easily fallen flat but the writing and JDM's acting work very well together.

This was the season finale when they shot it and decided to do a few bonus episodes while social distancing was delaying production, because they didn't want to start the final season with those limitations that you'll see in some of the bonus episodes. The final season's extension is actually important to the story and was planned ahead of time, unlike the S10 extension.
