coming in late as i'm catching up on the uncut reactions, but Imari explained it well. Rick created the central finite curve, which is basically a lock that only allows those in the curve to travel to universes within the curve, which is every universe where Rick is the smartest man in the universe. All other universes (where someone else is smarter) are outside the curve. So Evil Morty wants to get outside the curve and be able to explore the multiverse and find somewhere where Rick isn't the smartest man in the universe. It's honestly a pretty clever idea given they probably didn't have this idea in the beginning. I always wonder when they came up with it. some more lore dump was confirmation that Rick's wife died how he originally said was a fake made-up backstory. He then went on a rampage looking for the Rick who killed her, never finding him. He wound up creating the Citadel, where Ricks saw Mortys as a resource, and began ensuring Jerrys and Beths in these universes got together and made more Mortys, or even began just cloning Morty just so they had spares and backups.

Rick wanted to be the only smartest man in the universe so he isolated every universe where he isn't the smartest from every universe where he is. He killed many versions of himself looking for the one version of him that killed his Beth and his wife but still hasn't found him. Evil morty is able to go to other universes and not run in a rick that is the smartest in the universe he wanted to be free of rick.
