When Phil said "They just said so much with so little dialogue", after the first scene I knew it was gonna be a great time. I first saw this movie while still competing in MMA events and remember walking out of the theatre feeling like I had just watched one the best representations of complex family dynamics and trauma. You both hit the nail on the head talking about how the fighting was both literal and figurative given all the history in the family, and how the situation was complicated with no person being clearly right or clearly wrong (and how the final scene it was a great ending point, as showing anything afterwards would dilute the impact of the breakthrough) . Definitely see what Erica meant when discussing how this story benefited by the movie being about MMA vs boxing. Grew up watching the sweet science and appreciate how technical and beautiful it is, but for this story's purposes MMA was such a great choice. Seeing Tommy having a brutal and anger filled fighting style, and Brenden having a more balanced submission style, is more easily highlighted with the slams, ground-and-pound, etc. (p.s. Phil a real one for talking about fights when he was younger being mostly grabbing and scratches/scuffs from not landing clean. This movie falls victim to a degree to that trope, but especially watching with some fighting movies--as someone with just mediocre experience in combat sports--the amount of perfect landing punches and frame perfect dodges feels disingenuous to the sport and what makes those moments so special in real life)
