2024-09-30 06:34:42 +0000 UTCSorry for the long message. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but here’s my general take on Rick’s situation, without spoilers: 1. The Rick we know comes from another dimension/universe, labeled C-137. Without spoiling anything (wait for season 5), something tragic clearly happened to his original family, causing him to abandon that dimension. 2. Rick then joins the family we see in Season 1 episodes 1-6, which I’ll refer to as Universe 2. This isn’t Rick’s original family. 3. In 1x6, after the genetic disaster, Universe 2’s Morty and Rick C-137 escape to yet another universe, which I’ll call Universe 3. This is the dimension we’re currently watching. 4. Remember the S2 episode where they leave Jerry at a daycare? It’s possible that this Jerry (which will be explained later on the show) isn’t the same Jerry from Universe 3. 5. So, what we have is Rick from C-137, Morty from Universe 2, Beth and Summer from Universe 3, and Jerry from an unknown universe. 6. In both Universe 2 and Universe 3, Beth mentions that Rick abandoned her when she was a child. Morty's original Rick still hasn't been shown. 7. By the end of this episode, Rick hints that he’s not on a mission of “revenge” for his family but to get that Mulan sauce, implying that in his original universe, his wife Diane and his daughter Beth did indeed die. While Rick often seems like he can abandon a family and jump between dimensions without any emotional ties, there are several moments that show he does care about his current family, especially Morty from Universe 2. This season is absolutely fantastic.
