Development Diary #57

Finally, we've finished all the art stuff for the update 0.10 of Shuggerlain.

Remember, this update is the part 2 of the prologue of the game. The prologue, unlike the rest of the game, will be more linear and less open than the rest of the game, that should be similar to Space Paws in that way.

As you may probably know, for this update we needed to change our engine and we moved from Flash to Ren'py. There are obvious improvements with this change but of course, it's the first time we use this engine so we expect that we'll be able to improve more stuff after a few updates :)
This update 0.10 exceptionally will be independent. It won't be acumulative as we used to do with Space paws. The reason, again, the move to Ren'py. We prefer to focus on the new content so you can have it available as soon as possible. Adding the part1 of the prologue would delay the update some more weeks and I don't think most of you want this.
But don't worry, probably on the update 0.15 you'll have already all the prologue and the new content all together in Renpy :)

The new content you'll find on this Prologue part 2 is:

-2 new H-scenes with Dynae (both scenes with alternative points of view)
-Sex Battle with a new Furry character(10 new sex animations. And some more coming on the next update)
-1 new Battle (mechanics are now different. Mix between Visual Novel and RPG combat)
-1 new type of unit for the Battles (Light Cavalry)
-2 Skills/Spell animations
-8 new characters
-New Dialogue interface (adapting it to Ren'py)
-11 new backgrounds
-7 CG's

Well, more or less that's it.  Sex Battles will be similar to Space Paws easter eggs. This one is not so difficult to find, but if you don't do a couple of things you'll miss it.

We're pretty happy with the amount of work we got to do in this time, especially taking into account the time needed for getting used to Ren'py.

Now we need to build all this and polish, adjust, add music and sounds and all that. Estimated time, the same as always. But well, I can say that in August  there'll be a release.


Some new features you'll see on the update is adjusting music and sounds volume, skiping text, quick saving and loading, backlog... and a very important one: Middle mouse button or "H" key hides the interface. This is quite important and useful because sometimes text can hide the "most interesting stuff".

Ok, this is already too long lol. We're pretty happy with the changes and I think you'll also enjoy all the changes this update brings with it.

Good to know. Well as the game is now in 1080p it's easy to reach eventually those 2gb so we'll keep it in mind

That would probably be for the best, as Ren'Py on Android doesn't like applications larger than 2gb anyway; it sometimes doesn't install at all on some devices and if it does it tends to make the play store crash all the time untill the app is uninstalled. And while this probably won't be applicable anytime soon, it's something to consider for the future.

The Polish

Yes, it should be way easier. We tested html5 version so far, but not android version. We need to check how android runs our animations. In the browser version performance is quite poor. So lets say that at least a lite version without animations in android should happen at some point.

With the move to Ren'Py, having an Android version would seem like an easier thing to do compared to before, with that in mind, assuming there's considerable interest, would you ever consider creating an Android version?

Wow! So much progress in such a short time. Learning a new system must be hard as well. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the Part 2 of the Prologue.
