Characters and Interfaces [Poll]
Added 2020-05-25 19:40:02 +0000 UTCNow that the most of you have already checked the first version of Shuggerlain we want to ask you something. We've received some feedbacks where some of you really loved the idle animations for the characters. And others missed the Space Paws setting where the expression were in the character, not in the interface, even if the character was not animated.
So we are not sure about which option is the best to you. Just in case we'll say it:
IT'S NOT POSSIBLE to animate all the characters that will appear in Shuggerlain. That's why in the first alpha we only animated the most important characters: Nulkan, Saraith, Dynae and Tregor.
The bad side of animating the characters is that you can't have that idle animation for every face expression/emotion. It would be nice to have an idle animation for every single character, but there'll be a lot of characters, main and secondary, and we feel that we could have performance problems. Size would exponientionally increase, not to mention the possible crashes...
So Basically, these are the options:
1) Shuggerlain Setting:
- Idle animations for the main characters.
- Secondary characters will have static pics.
- Face expressions/emotions on the interface next to the text.
- No talking animations, but showing the face of the character that is talking.
2) Space Paws setting:
- No idle animations.
- Talking animations for likely all the characters.
- Face Expressions/Emotion directly on the character, not in the interface (so the interface would become a bit simpler, only showing the text and name of the character talking, not the face).
Comments
And that's why we are asking, because that option is not possible with our current software. If the character is animated, the emotion needs to be animated as well. So we'd need to create as many animations as emotions for every characters. That's a huge number of animations , the size would exponentionally increase and then get poor performance and all that.

2020-05-27 12:19:15 +0000 UTCYou're right, but we're also 2 people only. There're things that we clearly see which the best option is, even though we see that there could be people not liking it (the most of the cases because it needs development and we need to get there still) but others, like this one, that we just don't know. Sometimes there's stuff that requires more time than other and we don't know if people would appreciate the changes and "improvements" or if we're focusing in elements that the most of the people don't care too much.

I support you because your work is unique and I'm sure that you will always make the best choices regarding what is better for the game even if it goes in a way some people may think it was best before. :)
