Development Diary #2

Hi guys!

During this weeks we've been working on many aspects of the game that you'll see on the 0.38v:

-3 backgrounds drawn and fully colored,

-2 H-scenes outlined and  implemented the basic colors,

-Drawn and colored  new characters of the second planet

-The script is completely written and is being checked by our proofreader

Since Saturday the charger of the laptop of our artist died . Anyway it wasn't a serious issue. We kept doing other tasks on other computers , but tomorrow that problem should be totally solved.

The 0.30v was made public, as you know, and we've detected a bug on the potion's minigame. If you click several times on the same potion, you'll gain some +1 on your score every few clicks. We want to redo this because we wanted to bring a "words+colors" game, and currently it's only a "combine the colors minigame " or "get crazy clicking the same potion game" lol

It's likely that on 0.38 this minigame will be redone and it'll be a bit more similar to the  merchant riddles  (but a bit easier, dont be scared!)

Finally, perhaps some of you find that on 0.30 or in the next one, in 0.38, the game is/will be a bit more laggy. Don't worry about that. Space Paws is an alpha, we're optimizing many aspects. For this reason is very likely that Patrons receive the version 0.38.1 and during this month of exclusity for patrons, we'll optimize the version making the 0.38.2 ( hope it'll be smoother and a ligther-weight file without losing quality).

Yeah, I've been checking out unity and blender. I like that unity scripts can be done with c#, since I'm familiar with c++; Different, but similar. Are you going to stick with 2d, or are you thinking of delving into 3d stuff?

Flash has a limit of 10000 frames. It's very likely we reach it at some point, but we can add external swf to the main one. In order to keep optimizing it's very probably that al h-scenes will be on an external swf . In fact, flash has many limits because of this we'll probably work with Unity on the next game.

Sounds good. We'll just have to wait and see what you do with the mini-game. I didn't really have any lag problems, that I noticed, with .25 before you went to the optimized .25.1, but just seeing the new .38 version will be great!!! Since you will eventually have 3 or 4 planets will you be able to keep the game running smoothly? I have another flash game where the graphics and sounds are in compiled swc files, but I think that impacts load times. I think there are functional limits to the size of the main swf, but I'm no expert, so having resource libraries is probably a trade off. You seem to know what you're doing, so I'm sure you'll figure it out; Just curious... Anyway, thanks for the update! :D
