Boys Planet Ep. 2

we got to meet some new people this episode and i was falling in love all over again. also-- to no one's surprise-- there were plenty of cringe moments where i needed to look away, so.... that's good. wouldn't be a kpop survival show without those moments, huh?

Also apparently the group ATEEN debuted i. 2018 and they only won their lawsuit in 2023.

Jiwoong was a child when he debuted, he was, I believe, the maknae. His group INX filed a lawsuit due to mistreatment, and then his next group ATEEN filed ANOTHER lawsuit and disbanded due to a s*xually abusive CEO. he was in another group B.I.T but that didn't work out either. So all in all, he's debuted I. 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen, and almost none of them have been a good experience. I feel so bad for him and I honestly understand why he took a break from being an idol.

I'm about halfway through the reaction, and this one thing that keeps upsetting me is that they're giving them a song in a key they can't sing. Because the key is too high, they're gonna mess it up because they physically can't reach that high of a note. And I mean yes, a good handful of them truly can't sing, but I think a couple of them might improve if they sang a song in the proper key.

Love that you’re doing boys planet! Your reactions to jiwoong are so real 😭 he’s SO handsome

JAC

omg jaebeom? i do remember him! how did i not recognize him??

hunter

so true 😭 poor guy

hunter

no literally! the last thing you said. feels kinda mean

THIS

hunter

don't make me fall in love with him 😭😭

hunter

Fun fact one of these guys was on I-Land! not sure if you’d remember him though. He goes by Jeong I Chan in this show but on I-Land he was Jeong Jaebeom. He performed with Jiwoong in the entry test i think

I call this episode Han Yujin and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Like he got criticized in every possible moment, was super sick, and on top of that he wasn't even able to talk to his mom when they were able to make calls home 😔I felt so incredibly sorry for this kid the first time I watched Boys Planet

to kind of answer your question about why some of the less talented trainees were on the show, a lot of their companies probably sent them so that they could get some training on the show or to gain exposure for them if they wanted to debut them later. for a lot of them, their companies viewed it as a way to have them gain experience in ways they probably wouldn't get through just ordinary training (also I think some companies used it as a way to see whether or not they should drop their trainees, because a lot of the trainees' contracts ended after they were eliminated or the show ended). whether or not that's a good strategy is up for debate, because why are you sending a guy with 0 months of training on television?

here i am is pretty high for most male voice registers, and the fact that it's multiple high notes in a row, especially the chorus, with pretty energetic choreography during those high notes doesn't really help. it's really only easier to perform if you have a lot of training, you have a naturally higher range, and/or you have good breath support. a lot of the trainees who got labeled as "bad" singers during this part of the show really just don't have a high vocal range 😭 no clue why they didn't let anyone sing down the octave, it would have sounded completely fine and they would have reduced the number of voice cracks by like 70% 🥲

i think it's interesting that you like jiwoong because his entire past is honestly very similar to omega x. it's kind of incredible that even after everything he decided to go on boys planet and try again for his dream, and i think it's that perseverance and hard work that, like with omega x, really resonates with people

praise 🙏🏻

It’s so fun to rewatch bp again I forgot how hilariously cringe some parts are. And don’t worry jiwoong is a 98 liner so definitely not a child during this haha

oh! I had no clue ciipher was still active thing!

hunter

oh interesting!! I would not have guessed this dynamic between the two

accidentally deleted my comment so i'm reposting, but mini evnne info dump since you were talking about them in the beginning! you were wondering about pronunciation, it's "even". they used to be named "blit" predebut, and the backstory for the name change is hilarious imo. the other thing i wanted to mention is that keita is the only member who had already debuted before evnne, but all the members were on boys planet and come from different companies, so still kind of similar to omega x like you were saying in that they all had different backgrounds before debut. keita was in ciipher, but his company (the company created by rain) didn't really do anything with the group which is frustrating since he's so talented, so evnne is much better for him. ciipher hasn't put out music since 2022 and most of the members left (including tag, now from one pact), so while keita technically is still a member, he's inactive and i doubt ciipher will do much of anything (unless they do some intense rebranding) in the future.

Really love your reaction Can't wait for the next one

In Seventeen, The8 is one of the best dancers, but is a very slow learner Hoshi is the dance leader and often scold him Is kinda funny watching them fight over this The8 is very serious, but when it comes to dance practice, he is scared of Hoshi dance leader mode
