I don’t often feel my age but wanting to reach thru the phone and scream “Lindsay is a GUY!” (and so many other things) may have given me gray hairs. Love that you guys are exploring classic rock and other genres. I do recommend that you check the band/singer Wikipedia page and photos out just so you don’t have to work so hard to catch up. Give the Patreon a couple days heads up notice and we’d be happy to fill in the big issues and a one liner summary about most songs. Enjoy your journey! You should check out others like Heart (talented sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson) with a career spanning decades.

FM's first album (self titled) is also so special. The song Crystal is one of the best love songs you will ever hear. So excited for your classic rock journey!!! Better late than never 😅😂💕

But this album has always held a special place in my heart. Every song is just 😙👌. I only truly listened & understood the lyrics when I was around 18. You know when you’re younger, sometimes you just vibe to the music & sing along without thinking what the words mean. & the lore behind this particular album is just wild. I don’t think I could sing along to a song my ex wrote about me 😂 Like everyone has said, check out Silver Springs on the deluxe & DEFINITELY watch the live performance. Stevie was shooting daggers at Lindsey with her eyes lol. Stevie has performed one of her songs with a very young Taylor but it was the wrong song for Taylor’s vocal range & abilities at the time. As a Swiftie, I have to admit it wasn’t great but she was young & hadn’t fully developed her vocal skills as much. Taylor absolutely got dragged in the media for that. But they’ve stayed friends & in addition to Taylor name dropping Stevie in Clara Bow, Stevie also wrote a poem which is one of the prologues on TTPD (Have you read Taylor’s own prologue for TTPD? You should!). Stevie has claimed You’re On Your Own Kid as the song she thinks of when reminiscing about her recently deceased band mate Christine McVie. When Stevie went to the Eras tour, Taylor’s surprise song was You’re On Your Own Kid + Clara Bow.

I love this album for all of the memories attached to it, and seeing y’all listen for the first time makes me appreciate it all over again 🥰

As an elder millennial, they were before my time too but I got into them in the 90s when their live special The Dance aired on VH1 (which had the Silver Springs performance everyone is saying to react to). One of the best things I’ve done is see them live before Lindsey was no longer in the band and Christine passed away. The five main members you’ll need to know are Mick Fleetwood (drums), John McVie (bass), Lindsey Buckingham (vocals and guitar — and a PHENOMENAL guitarist at that), Stevie Nicks (iconic vocals), and Christine McVie (keys and vocals - and as others have said so underrated!) Christine’s voice was softer while Stevie’s has a rockier grit to it, IMO. Christine’s the lead female voice on Don’t Stop and sings lead on Songbird, You Make Loving Fun, and Oh Daddy when you get to those. You’ll be able tell the difference between her and Stevie soon. There’s a LOT of drama and lore with this band but John and Christine being married and divorced and the tumultuous relationship between Stevie and Lindsey (to this day 😬) is mainly the root of it. Dreams went viral on TikTok with the guy drinking cranberry juice while skateboarding. And I know you guys are young but Don’t Stop was Bill Clinton’s campaign song so maybe you’ve heard of it because of that. My guess is you’ve heard Go Your Own Way before in some way and MAYBE Gold Dust Woman. Have fun with it! There’s so much more good stuff to uncover!

He was telling me so much of the background of Never Going Back Again (he’s a huge music nerd, immensely talented). That guitar part is damn near impossible to play. And when Terry mentioned “oh that sounds like two guitars,” I HAD to tell you. It is two guitars, but it’s him playing both. He had to play it twice. EXACTLY. The. Same. But one time on each part and overlay them. The tempo, flow, beat, nothing could be off or they wouldn’t overlay. The skill is insane. Just felt important to let people know 😁

Dreams is Stevie's account of the breakup while Go Your Own Way is Lindsey's. Christine and John McVie were married but Christine had an affair the band's lightning director while recording this album and wrote You Make Loving Fun about the affair. (Rumor is that she told John she wrote it about the family dog). While all of this was going on Muck Fleetwood (Founding member and drummer) also learned that his wife was cheating on him and they started divorce proceedings. Lindsey sings on almost every song, so does Stevie. Christine is lead vocals on at least three tracks. All band members except Christine are still alive.

She also plays the keys, she was married to and divorcing during this album the basis, John McVie. The song “You Make Loving Fun” was about another dude she was seeing during this time. I once saw Stevie Nicks perform Rhiannon live under a full moon, and touched her hand. I live on Maui where, before the Lahaina fire, the drummer, Mick Fleetwood had his restaurant on historic Front street. I spent a lot of time there doing face and body art on adults for very special parties. These people are legendary. You're going to have to see some of their live videos too man the crazy chemistry and Stevie live is a whole other thing

We want parts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and to infinity! I agree with everyone asking you to go listen to Landslide and Rhiannon. And Gypsy is my all time favorite song. The Silver Springs live performance from The Dance went viral last year because of the way Stevie and Lindsay stared each other down during the performance. There is so much FM ahead of you beyond this album so I hope you will keep exploring! Fun fact: Stevie wears a crescent moon necklace, and for decades she has given similar ones out to people she loves. Taylor has one. :)

All three of them are fantastic writers. “Don’t Stop” is a Christine McVie song, and while the principal songwriter usually sung the lead vocal for the track, she liked Lindsey singing a good portion of it. That was Christine coming in on the 2nd verse. Her voice is wildly different from Stevie Nicks. Stevie has a good 2 pack a day growl, and Christine has more of a smooth, smokiness to her voice. Each of the 3 contributed powerhouse songs for this album, which spawned several hits and led to it being one of the best selling albums of all time. The tall guy on the cover with Stevie, and the namesake of the band, is actually an incredible drummer. John McVie is an outstanding bass player with several memorable bass lines on the album. The dissolution of the relationships of Lindsey and Stevie, as well as John and Christine McVie serves as the back drop for this body of work. As we all know, sadness, trauma, and tragedy fuels some of the best music, and they all poured their heart and soul into Rumours. The album’s title has the British spelling of Rumours, and not the Americanized spelling of Rumors. You’ll find the English love to add the “u” into words, like Saviour for instance. Fleetwood Mac was a British band, and when some original members left, they hired Buckingham to replace them, who in turn insisted that he and Stevie came as a package or he wouldn’t join.

Another interesting factoid for non-musicians that don’t know, he fingerpicks all his parts, including the solos. He doesn’t use a pick. As a guitarist myself, I’m fascinated by his technique, and his ability to get such clean pinch harmonics using only his fingers. I’ve played 30 years and haven’t managed to cleanly do it at will like he does. Check out “Big Love” live to witness his prowess on an acoustic version of the song. This is one of the best bands of all time, and Rumours is one of the best selling albums of all time, selling more copies than most artists sell over their entire career. 30+ million certified units is incredible. The songwriting is a masterclass, the vocals and harmonies are perfect, and the general musicianship of all the members is unmatched.

Short story Mick Fleetwood and John and Christine McVie started the band. They happened upon Americans indie folk artists Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. They came together to form one of the greatest bands of all time. Nicks and Buckingham were together. John and Christine were married. Nicks and Buckingham break up. She has an affair with Mick Fleetwood (the drummer). At some point John and Christine divorce. They are all a mess. However, their personal mess made some of the best music ever. In rumors you are listening to mostly Stevie and Lindsay. Christine is in there with vocals too. After Rumors yall should watch (not just listen to) The Dance. I have seen Fleetwood Mac 4 times. Christine McVie has already passed. When I got married we played Tusk for our bridal party entrance, and my husband and my first dance was Songbird (piano and vocals by the amazing Christine McVie). You have listened to only 4 songs. They only get better. ❤️

Christine then started seeing the band's lighting director, and John responded with drugs and groupies. John had to play bass on songs written and sung by Christine. Mick Fleetwood, the band's drummer and (along with John McVie) one of the two founding members left in the band, found out his wife had an affair with the band's guitarist Bob Weston. Weston was fired shortly afterward. Fleetwood acted as mediator and therapist and tried to hold the band together. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks had the most volatile situation of them all; their on/ off relationship was messy & resulted in frequent shouting matches in the studio, involved cheating on both sides and drugs. During that show Stevie thank Taylor Swift for writing You’re on Your Own Kid for helping her get through. Taylor then played it for a surprise song when Stevie was at the Eras Tour and she cried. Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks started dating shortly after she graduated high school (I think) and then when he was offered the job as guitarist in Fleetwood Mac he said he wouldn’t accept unless they hired Stevie too - they were a packaged deal. Nicks and Buckingham were on/off again for several years and the relationship was tumultuous at times - (watch the official Silver Springs live version video on YouTube - top tier and packed with emotion). Also - I requested Fleetwood so I’m super excited that you all are finally covering! 🎉 Make sure to give a listen to Stevie’s solo albums too 🖤
