2025-02-21 00:29:34 +0000 UTCSome context. Okay so keep in mind that Midnights is an album about “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my [her] life,” as taylor said. So this song (as well as all of the others on the midnights album, were prob not written in the year or any time near the time she released midnights. “Draw the cat eye, sharp enough to kill a man You did some bad things, but I'm the worst of them Sometimes I wonder which one will be your last lie They say looks can kill and I might try” These lines most likely reference I did something bad, which she wrote after kanye and kim faked a call to make people think she gave permission for kanye to make basically a fake p*rn video of a fake taylor naked in bed with them on the music video of his song. Which she didn’t. But they then proceeded to fake the call and call her a snake and the start the hashtag taylorswiftisover and make people bully her so much she disappeared for a whole year (no body physically saw her for an entire year) and ruin her reputation. In i did something bad she says: “They say I did something bad, Then why’s it feel so good? Most fun I’ve ever had And I’d do it over and over and over again if I could” more likely referencing the making of the album and prob looking for the real phone call unedited and leaking it to prove her innocence, which she later did but I don’t remember when (I think it was 2019) On the same track, she also sings: “Cause for every lie I tell them, they tell me three This is how the world works Now all he thinks about is me” In vigilante shit she continues: “I don't dress for women I don't dress for men Lately I've been dressing for revenge I don't start shit but I can tell you how it ends Don't get sad, get even So on the weekends I don't dress for friends Lately I've been dressing for revenge” Keep in mind this is a song about revenge right. I always thought it about getting back to ‘ye for what he did AND Scooter for stealing her masters. So, The phrase “dressin' for revenge” might be a reference to “the revenge dress” worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1994 after her husband, Prince Charles, publicly admitted to committing adultery. Taylor wore a similar “revenge dress” in November 2021 while promoting “Red (Taylor’s Version)” on Late Night With Seth Meyers. When she started promoting the re-recordings more publicly and trying to get back her life’s work. In this song she continued with: “She needed cold hard proof so I gave her some. She had the envelope, where you think she got it from? Now she gets the house, gets the kids, gets the pride Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife” This is the part I’ve always thought is about Kanye who admitted to cheating on Kim K and According to reports, Kim was granted full custody of their children and was allowed to keep their Hidden Hills property in California. So you can prob guess who gave kim the “envelope” and the “cold hard proof” lol. I love petty taylor. But if we look at Taylors other songs and keep in mind she isn’t only talking about one person here but about two certain people who did the worst things you could do to a person to her (ruin her reputation and steal her life’s work) then This verse could also be an allusion to scooter braun and his ex wife, who we’ve always thought the bridge of “mad woman” is about on which she sings: “The master of spin has a couple side flings. Good wives always know. She should be mad, should be scathing like me, But no one likes a mad woman” Referencing how mad she is about the situation with the stolen masters and how his wife should be just as mad about him cheating (she prob gave her proof too lol) but she isn’t because “no one likes a mad woman”. The chorus of vigilante shit is: “I don’t start shit but I can tell you how it ends. Don’t get sad, get even. So on the weekends I don't dress for friends Lately, I've been dressin' for revenge” The first part about not starting shit can be traced back to end game where she sings “i swear I don’t love drama, it loves me.” And the second part about not getting sad, but instead getting even could be that this lyric is a play on the phrase “Don’t get mad, get even. She replaced the word “mad” with “sad”, which can be attributed to what she sings about in Mad Woman, which she has discussed extensively about in the past in the folklore era, in the songs mad woman and the last great American dynasty and in the Folklore long pond studio sessions. So if you watch the long pond studio sessions she says “The most rage-provoking element of being a female is that for centuries we have been expected to absorb male behavior, silent absorption of whatever any guy decides to do. Oftentimes when we respond to bad male behaviour, that response is treated like an offence itself. And I have absolutely no right to respond or I’m crazy.” In vigilante shit she continues: “Ladies always rise above Ladies know what people want Someone sweet and kind and fun The lady simply had enough” So, Throughout the Midnights album she explores the theme of gender roles, right? So again here, she addresses the way women are expected to present themselves. She is hyper-aware of these expectations, having written in the song Mirrorball about changing her public-facing persona to fit expectations. She also addressed these expectations as I said before in Mad Woman and ATW (Ten minute Version) where she sings: “The idea you had of me, who was she? A never-needy, ever-lovely jewel whose shine reflects on you” In vigilante shit, she continues: “While he was doing lines And crossing all of mine Someone told his white collar crimes to the FBI” Have I mentioned how much I love petty taylor? So, the first line here of “While he was doing lines, And crossing all of mine” plays upon the word “lines”, and in this context, it has two meanings The man (ye/scooter both at this point honestly if you know the rumors) was doing dr¥gs. “Doing lines” is slang for snorting…*you know what* and the second is that The man was crossing lines which means he was crossing (Taylor’s) boundaries and behaving unacceptably. As we know they both did. And about the “Someone told his white collar crimes to the FBI” line, lol😭 can I say how much I love petty/vengeful taylor again? Lol. So, In 2021, Scooter Braun — who again “acquired” 🙄the masters to Taylor’s first 6 albums in a deal with her former publisher, Big Machine — was sued for $200 million by Goldman Sachs executive, Peter Comisar, under claims of fraud and breach of contract, following false promises of fulfillment on a development of a private- equity fund👀 so yea… lol who do you guys think gave the envelope to the “FBI” or in this context the person who sued him for fraud and breach of contract? Lol💀 She ends vigilante shit with “And I don't dress for villains, Or for innocents, I'm on my vigilante shit again. I don't start shit, but I can tell you how it ends. Don't get sad, get even. So on the weekends, I don't dress for friends, Lately I've been dressing for revenge” And again I say, I love vigilante Taylor🗣️🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️
