The Deleted Scene from MatPat's Trailer
Added 2024-05-06 06:19:44 +0000 UTCOkay, here is the juicy backstory to this deleted scene!
So in the script we planned for this scene to play right after the montage of all the Game Theory fans (toward the end). The idea was it would give motivation for MatPat's choice to retire. Although, something felt off during the edit and we really felt stuck.
We tracked it back to this scene - it was slowing down the momentum. Instead we decided to allow the bus scene to carry the trailer to the climax. This ended up giving a nice focus to his legacy & positive impact, rather than "youtuber burnout". It was a hard decision to make so late in the process because we literally decided to remove it the night before the premiere (in the vlog it was when we were at the airport for our layover).
PS. the other reason we left the scene out was because the actress pronounced 'Ollie' more like 'Ali' - we should have caught that on set lol

I also agree that this scene would have slowed it down. I think it was better story wise to focus on his positive impact than YouTuber burnout and that’s why you guys manage to strike a chord every time because of your smart choices in story telling. Best to finish on a high note! A YouTube channel I think would be great is the “bucket list family”, Colin and Samir just interviewed them and even though I didn’t really watch them before their story sounds like a rollercoaster of a movie and I was on the edge of my seat the whole hour long interview. They aren’t as popular as the other YouTubers you’ve done so far, so maybe you could do their story down the line once you gain more subscriber momentum. But interestingly enough they have a stronger Instagram following with 3 mil and 1 mil subscribers on youtube respectively. Although they did just sign on with National Geographic to make an animation and wrote a best selling book with them so you might get traffic from a new audience who might not be into YouTube necessarily but into national geographic.

2024-05-16 19:27:57 +0000 UTCI wanted to suggest one thing: please don’t regularly do all nighters. This will burn you out and mess with your sleep, permanently. Just ask Freddie Wong, who ran the YouTube channel “RocketJunp” (Who would be an interesting candidate for a trailer, if he hadn’t left YouTube in 2018 suddenly… due to burn out. ) I want to enjoy sticks content for awhile and, wanting the best for you two. That is all.

2024-05-06 17:31:59 +0000 UTCThat was a pretty good scene but I definitely agree that it should have been removed. The story of the boy saying in the school bus how he saved his life was so much more powerful.

2024-05-06 17:31:33 +0000 UTCThis would be amazing in a full movie! Honestly that would. Be awesome. Even something like 30 mins. But I know you guys are already working on the Ness film so that is so exciting!!

2024-05-06 13:25:51 +0000 UTCThis would be a fantastic scene in a feature length movie but I totally understand why it would slow down the pacing of the trainer too much.

2024-05-06 11:38:20 +0000 UTCI definitely agree on the choice to remove it, even before reading the context of where it would have been, i felt the pacing of the scene felt slow compared the rest of trailer.

2024-05-06 10:58:19 +0000 UTCno way, this is the scene you guys asked Steph for feedback on!! So cool to see it come to life 😭😭 But I’d say the final thing turned out amazing anyway, especially considering the tough decisions u had to make in such a short timeframe, awesome work!
