My first time as a DM was definitely a rough one 😅 I was excited to run the one shot that I put A LOT of work into. Before the final boss battle, the bbeg (that they hadn’t encountered yet) was acting a little scared/cagey/trying to escape from them without rousing suspicion. During his monologue, the players hadn’t rolled for insight but didn’t trust him. They said “should we roll for initiative?” And I said…. “Not yet” 🤦 it was so embarrassing but super funny at the same time lol

I'm in a group with 5-6 people (it changes pretty frequently) and I thought I was going to be the forever DM. We had to scrap a campaign that we were 3-4 sessions in and so we wanted to restart. One of my other friends wanted to DM so I stepped down. Our biggest struggle was trying to keep everyone's attention, there was always someone having a side conversation or on their phone, it is really annoying

My first dm experience I ran dragon of icespire peak for my daughter and my friend and I made a tank that I ran for them since they both picked casters for characters and listening to stinky dragon helped me out so much on figuring out how to dm and play the game it was a blast

Shabandonment

I love the use of the brine beckons for the opening music lol

Amnophy

Thank you so much for making content like this. I am a teacher trying to make my classes DnD campaign, and I love hearing how you guys DM.

Sean Minion

I am so glad that you are doing this bonus show, I just started DMing and I have been using a lot of what you have been doing and any tips you give are so helpful.

Andrew Hook

Its really cool to see just how much experience and love you guys bring to the Stinky Dragon. I also really enjoy these kind of behind the curtain peeks like this.

Waiting in lines for whoever, I have been trying to run a Campain for my wife in my head. Very little detail can been fun, but my wife loves it. So I have been doing my best to not be too mean and give as much detail of the area as she requests. Though she did spend alot of time asking about a mushroom some talking mice where living on. Drove me nuts.

1st time DMing 1979, S1 Tomb of Horror, Original Edition. 3rd session of our inaugural Junior High Dungeons & Dragons Club. Our Gym Coach was our sponsor. He bought huge rolls of graph paper for us.

For my latest campaign we are using Foundry for our map online and it has a feature where you can roll and only the DM sees the roll, it’s been super useful for perception checks to avoid the “that was a bad roll I’ll roll too” meta gaming

WolfStark

Thank YOU for being here to support us!

I absolutely love and appreciate this. I've been trying to step into the role of a DM for a while now, still haven't done it yet though. But I've been home brewing my world trying NOT to copy other people. I'm gonna try to be more laid back and not so strict with how things are suppose to be.

NoaTheBlackMage

as someone who is about to start DMing this was helpful to get a headspace for it thanks a ton

Sean Solis

Thank you guys so much for doing this!!

Chandler Bolds

I was gifted about 12 books from the forgotten realms earlier this year that I've been meaning to read through!

Stinky Dragon

Love this! As a Forever DM since the Basic Red Box edition, I think, all the advice here is spot on. "Yes and" is very good, but don't be afraid to say "No, but..." If a yes will derail the enjoyment of the party.

Grim Optimist

I loved the Dungeons and Dragons novels, as per my father. I didn’t know that it was an actual game for A LONG time. My friend was hosting games and had a projector on a table and all this cool stuff, I was super interested, I asked to sit in on one of his games, or even be an NPC… He never said anything about it again. Then RT started pilot week/month and were doing a few D&D things, and I haven’t stopped listening.

Rinnalla

let us know about anything you'd like us to cover in the future!

Gustavo Sorola

Fun fact, I was in the Omegathon at my first PAX, so watching Acq Inc was one of the few things I got to do outside of my schedule 😅 So glad that I did! - Ben

Stinky Dragon

This was such a cool episode. Love you guys are doing this.

Rachel Hansen

This is for Ben. I think I was at the same PAX. My first DnD experience was 2011 at PAX west in Seattle. They had this beginners block where you were put in a random group, ran through like one interaction with premade characters, and got your official Wizards of the Coast ID card. Super fun.

Rachel Hansen

I’m glad to know the first session goes wrong for every DM. I had a scripted chase sequence in mine, but they killed all the NPCs before it could start.

BetterBoomstick

How inspirational guys. Thanks for sharing your experiences

Clare Talbot

Always good to hear. Helps me to be a better D.M

Jordan Baxter

Great first episode as for the topic of inspiration I’m lucky enough that the players I have to watch doctor who so they don’t get the plot points I’m ripping off.

Wizardpower700

This might help me as a brand new D.M! I can't wait to listen woooo!

I’ve been waiting for this!!! Woot!
