There is a companion film to this directed by Steven Soderbergh called Out of Sight with Jennifer Lopez, George Clooney, Ving Rhames and more. I think you’d love it.

Totally! I think watching it now without the expectations you would have had then allowed me to fully sink in without the expectations of another Pulp Fiction. Plus I have the insight of his other films and know by now that he is very skilled at his craft so at no point am I watching this with the attitude of "okay let's see what else this guy can do" which would be a natural approach at the time.
I really enjoyed this one!

Your intro is 100% correct. Imagine being in your 20s in 1997 and watching the newest Tarantino after Pulp Fiction! The expectation was "aw this is gonna be SUPER WILD!!!!"
I recall the critics really loving it though. For me (as I'm sure it did with everyone else at the time), it took a few rewatches and some time to appreciate it for what it is. It was really a brilliant move by Tarantino at the time; you get the fun "jumping around in time" stuff and the usual brilliant dialogue, but we're also gonna slow things down and develop a character here who's in her 40s and worried about aging. Great stuff.
