Halcyon Post Tomorrow, not Today, and a Quick Writing Recap

Hi everyone,

Due to a scheduling issue with my holiday trip, I'm going to delay today's The Halcyon System post until tomorrow morning (approximately 24 hours). I didn't have as much downtime during the holidays as I'd hoped, and the editing process slipped through the cracks. Thanks for your understanding.

On a different note, I had a great holiday. My grandma turned 90, and we had a pretty fun celebration for her. I've got a lot of travel lag, and another day of driving today.

This year has been absolutely great for me as an author. I've gotten to experience publishing for the first time with Magical Girl Undergrad, and it's been eye-opening. It's been stressful at times, but also very cool to see the process. I've learned a ton from Magical Girl Undergrad, both in terms of writing and in terms of how to be an author (the business side of it).

It's been bumpy at times, too. There was a period in mid-May through late June where I really took a hit to my writing speed and discipline due to some motivational bumps and probably overdoing it in the months prior. Burnout is real, even with things you love. Be careful, and give yourself grace when things feel tough. It's okay to take a breather sometimes and do stupid hobbies instead of being productive all the time.

2025 should be an exciting year for me.

I've got an audio-only publishing deal with The Halcyon System and am working on self-pubbing the ebook and paperback versions. More information about that is coming as I move forward on it (I've got cover art commissioned and an editor about to start looking at Book One). It's been really affirming to see that this can work as a career, even if I'm not quite there yet.

I think I'm very close, though.

I've got a new project cooking. It's due to come out in February sometime, and I think it takes everything I've learned about writing and puts it together. I'm excited to share more of it with you all. It's a good one.

The Halcyon System will go to two/week (Monday/Friday) in January. I may miss a day once a month if things get bumpy, but I intend to finish the story sometime in May. It's been a blast to come back to a concept I had when I first started, take it in a totally different direction, and see it have such a great reception.
