Not much has broken up the boredom. Major skirms for her sector wrapped during Vanessa's first foray into taking on CPD 5 years previous.
Before that the action was plentiful, Operation Mallera Deep, the Apex wars and frequent CPD encounters.
For a seasoned Combatant it seems wasteful doing nothing.
But then
She was ordered to report to the Marshalling zone.
She was given new equipment and put onto a transport.
She hadn't rode in a ZT-90 for quite some time.
Seeing the island from the air is something else, albeit they are only flying low.
ZT-90s are slow like everything there.
A 30 minute flight, then a couple of hours to recharge the vehicle then they are away again.
Where they go there isn't much other air traffic, just a few other ZTs coming the other way.
Pilot goes to land on the turn junctions landing pad but doesn't let the craft shut down
They don't trust the structure to hold the weight of the craft.
The pile out and run inside, the whole place is different.
Its not what she is used to, not that the op sector is a 5 star hotel.
Its full of concrete rot, water leaks, damage and looks like its about to come down.
The patrol unit meets them and briefs them quickly.
"you guys are the new standby squad, the last squad got taken out this morning"
One asks the patrol unit if they are all there is
"you guys are it, we keep this area under our boot, keep everyone in line but occasionally things get hot here, that's when you guys come in to help and yes, you are all there is"
Another asks the patrol unit how long was the last squad here for
"they were here for 3 days. Ambushed by Marauders, don't even know where that happened"

Excellent "inside view" story ! Enjoyed this new "vietnam" quagmire of side of Neon Dark universe with Marauders !
