Alex told me to write more on my posts here on Patreon so I’ll give it a go. Im not as good of a creative writer as he is though.
A few years back we were at the Watergate hotel in DC working a wedding.
We were friends with the bride so she put us up on the hotel for a long weekend.
I was still in the Army at the time, and learning from Alex how to photograph weddings, which is what I do full time now. Alex convinced me to pose for him throughout the weekend as well. I felt awkward, especially in the pool and sauna because others were around. Alex didn’t care though. In the sauna when others had left he asked me to get nude. I said this isn’t Europe and we would definitely get in trouble and he ultimately agreed. But looking back l, I think they would have been beautiful photos had I done it.
Some of the groomsman from the wedding were at the pool when we did photos there and at first I could tell were snickering at us doing a “photoshoot”. But as we kept taking photos they got closer and closer to us. I heard one of them comment on my abs. I went from feeling silly by pleasing Alex to pose for him, to feeling being appreciated. It wasn’t so important what others thought of me but as you all who know me on here, I like pleasing people. Like if someone tells me good job on something I do for them I get all happy for the rest of the day. It’s what made me so good at working for my bosses in the Army, as a civilian in corporate world, to business clients and you all now here in the entrepreneurial world.
The next day at the wedding reception some of the guys approached me. One had kinda made friends with us and asked Alex where he was going to post the photos. At the time we didn’t post many of the photos we took we were not big into social media then and again I was in the Army and they frown on modeling and we both just enjoyed taking photos for ourselves with no pressure to post.
Alex and I had talked on how to best archive our photo projects. Two years later a month after I got out of the Army we created a Patreon. We really enjoy sharing the photos, art, and memories with you all and are appreciative of you.
